Projector , Screen and stuff - Suggestions please !

!

Rshri,

It is quite a noble thought that you prefer to spend money on the family first and then on yourself.

I think you should not feel guilty because when you go for a movie in multiplex, the family too goes so if you buy a projector they too will benefit watching movies at home so you are not the sole beneficiary.

You can always go for projectors which are in the market since last few months so that they are well reviewed and costing also lesser from the launch price instead of going for cheap projector.

@vinay - I have never had any serious budget issues. I pulled out because spending a large amount on my entertainment alone (rather than my family & parents) seemed selfish to me. This may sound strange but its true!
Lately, I have done and spent a lot on my family and parents. So I now sort of feel I have "earned" the right to buy PJ for myself :-)

Even so, buying Panasonic/JVC projector is still far away for me because it will be too costly when introduced. Real performance issues will surface only after 6 months or so. In fact, I am seriously thinking of buying a cheap Epson 720p projector and use it temporarily for 1 year or so before moving on to Panasonic/JVC.

Thanks for suggestion but by now I have made up my mind to buy Epson 705HD 720p projector and will use it for at least 1 year before making 1080p/3D jump. This PJ is 3LCD (I personally prefer this over DLP), has been in market for sometime and has good feedback from users. There are several minuses like - no lens shift & 16:10 ratio & over-brightness but I can compensate for all that.
Also buying ceiling mount, HDMI cable and splitter (I will continue using my 50" RPTV too for watching SD stuff). Big decision that is yet to be made is for screen. Will do it in coming days.

Hi! My new projector is a JVC 7X and it is made in China but the 3D glasses are U.S make. I had insisted on a Japanese Projector is Jvc now made in China? Does it make much of a difference if its made in China? Please respond quickly for I can still return the Projector!
Thanks!

I think JVC makes the projectors in China. But why did you opt for last year's model, when their new models are being released now, has better tech and cheaper pricewise. Unless, you got a closeout price on X7.
The current years RS55/65 looks so good, from first impressions in Cedia and has 4k e-shift to boot.

got my 7x jvc cheaper than the price and rs55 is still not out. can you help me i need my bryston pp300 amplifiers triggered to on and off without leaving my seat. i have 3 brystons and it has 12v DC in to remotely trigger. Is there a remote controlled 12v DC supply? How many amperes will the Bryston require to trigger? Will 5 amperes be ok? Please help!

Hi LK,
Your projector or Pre-amp/AVR usually have a 12v 150mA trigger that can be used to fire your power amp on. If you have multiple devices you can daisy chain them or buy a Trigger Expansion Module. Emotiva sells one for ~$40. http://emotiva.com/et3.shtm

Alternatively, if you have switched power outlets in your Preamp/AVR you could use that to fire on your amps whenever it is turned on.

The remote trigger can take any voltage upto 12v. Many of the remote triggers are also used for electric screens so its spec'ed to output 12v.

Just as Santhosh said, very likely that your projector and avr will have a remote trigger. It takes a 3.5 mm cable. Just connect it to your amp. so, every time your projector/avr is turned on, the amp will start.

yeah you are right but my av8003 and mm8003 can only trigger when my other equipment is in standby, the bryston does not have standby mode. and the DC12 is fine but i needed to know how many amperes won't be harmful to the brystons. my Marantz av 8003 and mm8003 send 12v DC .45mA current. how many amperes for Bryston if i buy another 12v supply? Thanks!

Your best bet would be contact Bryston. I don't think anyone here can tell you how much amp is fine unless they know about servicing Bryston amps.

Good luck.

Rshri,

I think you should watch movies only in 720P as you are now having a projector and should consider to phase out as quickly as possible your RPTV.

On the other hand i think after watching a few movies on projector you will automatically get the urge to do away with RPTV.

This may happen :-)
As of now, there are some movies I feel like watching in biggest possible screen and some for which I feel my 50" RPTV (which is also 720p BTW) is enough. So that's how I am planning to use both together. But as you said, when my PJ setup is complete and is in use, my taste may change and I may start watching everything through projector :-)
It will be difficult to dispose of my RPTV if that happens, there are no buyers for it in current market.

Hi, I'm new here. I am moving into my new place in January and would like to look for a home entertainment projector. Can anyone advise which is a good projector with good clearity picture and yet afforadable? Any with a range of below 1K? Thanks. Newbie

hi emreno : 1k means 1000 $ i assume and then you have good choices. Viewsonic Pro 8200 / Epson TW 3600 / 3010. Please let us know your specific requirement and where are you buying from country.

Hello Guys,
Does this projector thing give equvalant experience as watching it on Plasma TV? while watching it on full hd or 3d experience?

Regards

Way better performance compared to plasma. 3D is no comparison at all, due to sheer size alone.

So it means it is better to invest in projector, than in a TV? are there other considerations?

I am planning to spend 50-60 K on TV. What is your recommendation?

Thanks

Well, let me put it this way. A projector is not a plug and play. You need to think about the setup. If you can manage to mount the projector and screen in a room, then go for it. But again, a projector is not a tv replacement. I mean, you can't watch with lights turned off all the time. For casual watching, you would still need TV.

Rather than spend all the money on TV, I would buy a basic tv, for casual watching. Then spend + add some more money budgeting for projector + screen. That then becomes special watching equipment, like movies, games, special programs etc.
