wood-mini ITX-classy and easy to make

If the chips used create little enough heat it will also be fine.

Seems to me that this is ideal for an audio setup: low-power cpu, no heavy graphics.

Or, even a home-built CD player? Although I'm quite active in the computer audio section here, I've never built one just for sound. My CDP is dying... I'm wondering!

yes thad is correct the clever selection of itx MOBO that can take a GFX card is the trick..

can some one check the Xonar dimensions that may fit or not

FYI this baby has ATI 4670 inside

have u eva seen how the author has designed it .... this time go thru the link ..

there is full open exhaust at bottom

I'm not very good at this stuff, but I think an an exhaust in the bottom will AFAIK be far less efficient in heat dissipation than a top-mounted (or rear or even side-mounted) exhaust. I'm going by the fact that hot air rises, and needs to escape upward (unless a sideways draft of some strength moves the hot air away).

But then the design of that case (up-side-down mobo) dictates a bottom-mounted exhaust, if the fan has to be of a reasonable size (for purposes of silent running).

We are used to great, huge fans (and they have even become something of a hobby of mine!) because of buying 3-plus Ghz multi-core processors that double as room heaters. Not to mention (again) those graphics cards. But yes, even in a low-power system, if it will not run fanless, then the fan should be big and slow, not small, fast and frantic.

another factor to consider the basic usage if such a small case...i don't think it is meant to be stuffed with components which generate a lot of heat. I mean why would anyone want to put a graphics card inside a case like this? when a ion or fusion or even the basic sandy bridge will do the job equally well? I think this casing is meant for a low powered htpc..for which the wood should not be too much of a problem..

the older dual core MOBO gives savings ... with that the GFX card can be bought for some gaming .. a nice compromise between usability and beauty.
