hi team.
I am planning to buy a blu ray player.
my needs
1.it should bit stream ouput 5.1 channel sound via hdmi.not neccesary if it cannot decode it itself.although all models capable of bit stream are capable of decoding it also.:ohyeah:

2.it should read an externall hdd.mostly of mkv files.

3.I am a noob about region coding.so what should I check about it in the model?should it be region free??

I checked sony bdp-s380 under10k budget has the 1st feuture..but not sure about the second.

I must go for a region A player as most of the discs are region A...and indian bd discs are region free.so now in india where to get a region A player.is amazon.uk or amazon us is the option only??

please give ur input guys....thanks in advance.

Toshiba BDX 3200 from Amazon UK. Price should be around 10K. Supports 3D, HDD, mkv and above all it can be made region free by upgrading firmware.

thanks guys:clapping:.so its the toshiba 3200.....

one more question..suppose I am happy with region A model(since where from I rent the discs will be all region A or region free).
then is it a better idea to buy from amazon us OR e bay usa a region A coded model......

thanks in advance

If u're going for Toshiba BDX 3200, dont buy from USA.. U'll get BDX3200KE version which I think will not bitstream HD audio...
Buy from amazon uk so that its the BDX3200KB version and apply region free firmware to play all region discs and also it can bitstream HD audio codecs as well....

I think you are wrong.

I have the KE version brought from amazon.de and it does not decode DTS-HDMA and can only send the signal as PCM even on bitstreaming. But it decodes Dolby Tru-HD perfectly. But the KB version does both the decoding correctly.

Thanks

thanks friends for those great infos.
so it shd be BDX3200KB...........RIGHT??

anyway yesterday I tried amazon.uk.....they are saying we are sorry....this item cannot be shipped to that place..etc.
ANOTHER thought just sharing...I dont have any plans for blu ray disc buying..I will only rent it from moviemart, now they do have 90% discs region free.rest are mixed regions.
so I can also think about blu ray players avilable here in india..
my only criteria is all type of HD AUDIO bit streaming via hdmi..........and about external hdd reading I can myself test it at the store itself....

any suggestions about the idea??

It has been over a month now. Sorry to bump the post. Did you buy any BDP?

A related question - the PS3 is also a BD player. I have seen the PS3 rated quite high as a BD player too - so would you advice going for a PS3, as I can get two gadgets rolled into one - a console and a BD player. Saves money too!

Yes. PS3 is a very good BDP. The only problem is that it cannot be made region free. If that is not a concern, it is a good buy. Then again, if playing games is not important (original games are Rs. 1500+), then why waste 9k; settle for a BDP worth 10k.

The lower PS3 (160GB) costs somewhere around 16k. There was a price cut few months back. Anyways, latest PS3 Slim has been announced. There will be a 12GB PS3 which should be cheaper. Not sure if it will be available in India though.
