I dont actually know the difference between the high priced screens. But I am currently using a 6k winton 90" screen 16: 9 manual pull down. Bought it locally. For me the picture quality in that is great. And I am really happy with that. So you can see some demos on lower priced screens as well to get an idea.

My suggestions is, You can take your projector to the demo place and project them on different screens if possible.

thnks spirovious.. I see you have not yet purchased any projector screens... have you finalised anything or ordered anything yet ?

My wall size is 9.6 feet wide, I cannot get screen of that size. I am projecting on the wall and I am fully happy with the results. I have reduced my brightness level a little below the halfway mark of 50 say 48-47 as the asian paint royale used has some kind of gain. I don't know how a screen will improve and even if it does it is not worth spending more than 10K in my opinion as the gain of picture quality improvement won't be significant.

That said, when a very bright scene like this happens, it throws a little white light. I donno if this gets absorbed by the screen.

PS. Not the picture of my HT setup.

i am also using wall as my screen. which is a clean wall without any switches or sockets however the wall colour is not white but " cream " colours that makes it look like pale yellow in front of a super white screen.

also i am very happy and satisfied with the PQ now and have tried sample peices of white local cloth/paper etc etc lots of material and have noticed that the colours are far better than my wall but that does not make me spend another 5k or more.

only issues is while watching 3d the glasses take away most of the brightness and screen looks dull/lifeless.

will the screen make 3D any fun. ratio is 30:1 i.e for every 30th movies in 2D i watch 1 3D on average or maybe less. worth spending 9k for a grandview ? 84inch 16:9 manual pulldown.

another throught as FM @jidhin did was painting the rest of the wall black with absorbs light and makes the screen pop out. i can paint the screen with some self artistic designs in some dark shade and put a white scree. these all are just plans. nutin will be done anytime recent as doing stuff slowly and gradually have got me the best ideas and satisfactory results.

@ theironhorse and @ jidhin - What would be your suggestion for the screen dimensions - My projector throw would be somewhere in the range of 9-10ft. Can I go for a 110 inch diagonal screen ? or More if it allows ? Will it affect the overall PQ ?

Like Prembr,I am also satisfied with PQ projected on wall.In fact I get better contrast and black levels on wall.I have checked with FM screen, but image is brighter.

Till 100in,image will not loose quality, above that it may look dull.

Dats my Setup !!

Unfortunately my Ceiling, Flooring, Side Walls everything is Off White which I presume also makes the picture a little whiter.

Screen here in the photo is Picture Perfect. Now I use Grandview which is much better in my opinion.

Will try n post same photo with Grandview Screen.

Thanks Darshan, a nice setup you got there. Congrats.

If you could add a screenshot of this or a similar scene when white light comes in to play in Grandview, it will help me to decide if the light gets absorbed by the screen than scatter. In the current screen, your picture looks like it amplifies the white light. I don't get such a bright screen may be due to reduced brightness in PJ combined with Red paint on HT setup.

@ All - Pls kindly share your settings for PQ.

will do asap i reach home..

and guess what. this is being played via xtreamer.. through 35 ft hdmi cable. not even HTPC so i can tweak settings in pc. just some basic settings changed in colour, saturation, brightness and contrast with eco-mode on.

xtreamer set to 720p as PJ downscaling is not as good and images clicked via my Galaxy S3 with flash set to force off.

videos is from cloudy... meatballs 1080p file size 7-8GB odd..

Thanks again... I am going to hook up my PS3 with the PJ and see the effects.. and the movies I have are always 720p and should look fine.. just wanted to understand the settings for saturation, brightness and contrast for an optimal output..

i used a few scenes to do the following. the settings might not work out for all.
as for basics i find

brightness : 50 : is high set it to 43-44
contrast : 50 : is mildly low : play between 50-60
saturation : 50 : mildly low : 2-3 points more will be colourful.

colours : try diffrent preset : user mode worked fine for me

mode : cinema : standard is too bright.

few pointers :

1> grab some movies with varitey of scenes.
2> pause at drak , bright , night , daylight , colourful scenes.
3> play with settings on diffrent scenes and settle with the most natural , pleasing to your eyes.
4> its on default to standard mode: change to movie mode.

another thing i have noticed is the pJ looses focus after a few movies so i manually move the ring 1-2 mm either way. its not a difficult task but just want to inform to get the best crisp PQ out of it.

if using HTPC play with ATI/Nvidia settings too only for advanced users.
if the GPU is well capable of handling such large files.MY average size is 10 GB+ for 600 odd movies.

Projector losing focus after few movies.. That's weird isn't it? :banghead::mad:
