Acer H5370BD - Impressions

It actually happens to me to be true. You wont realise its lost focus until you see very fine text. And yes on an average I have refocussed it like after every 2-3 days but it dosent bother me though I understand that it should not happen at first place.

Just off by like 1 mm..

true for cinema some imperfection in focus is not noticeable if you dont want to try hard for finding imperfection..
once you flow with the story...you forget everything..
i had great focus with previous set up diy pj..but now as i am using a 50 Rs mirror instead of a costly front surface mirror..i am losing some focus as well..no big deal for a good cinema

If the PJ is ceiling mounted as in my case, there is very slight focus change after 15-20 days. This may be due to gravity or tension of the screws. May not be a problem if you place it in a shelf in the rear.

@ Jidhin - What about you ?

@ All - I am yet to get my hands on my PJ but I am learning everything from this forum.. Thanks to all your valuable do's and dont's.. Amazing place to learn and collaborate !!! kudos !!!

yes this is exactly the case.. ceiling mounted and the PJ is just 7 feet off the ground as my seating is on the ground. which includes 2 mattresses stacked on top of each other to give room for multiple folks sitting together and having sips while enjoying the big screen :)

the focus lost is almost negligible but now that i have noticed it , its becomes more of placebo effect that every now and then i check the focus by playing something with texts to fine tune it.

3D query

Simultaneous posts : apology but did not wanted to get this one missed.

been enjoying the big screen like everyone else however now that our projector has support for

HSBS
FSBS
OU

Frame Packaging , Sequential Frame etc.

i have tons of movies with over 400 GB of 3D stuff now most of them being SBS and rest OU. which ideally means inferior quality . actually 540p to be true when its a 1080p 3D video.

as far as i understand only BD has proper frame packaging 3D which will be true 1080p 3D and native resolution will be 1080p + 1080p running parallel.

query

where can i download ( legal ) demo material atleast to test , as buying a BDP and BD disks will never happen not even in far future.

even if i am able to get hold on some stuff like that how to play that stuff ?

XBMC i believe does not support 3D as of now. i am not sure though.
( this is taken into account with a GPU far more capable than doing just 3D)
how to play this stuff over the projector without BDP and BD disk.

please suggest. i want to experience " that " real 3D to see what the PJ is capable off just for kicks...

side note : BD disk dump will be an ISO. do i mount it through virtual drive and play or do i extract it and play.
if extract then what to be used ? winrar/7z etc.
if to be mounted then what to be used ? fabdvd , tmt5 , tmt6 , cyberlink powerdvd ?

oh.. i actually got hold of a BD.iso 45GB :D

I only tested the iso to check if it works. Didn't watch the movie completely, so can't say about quality. When using 3d iso this way, the tv will automatically switch to 3d mode and PC will switch the resolution to 1080p 24Hz. I found WinDVD to be good for 3d playback as it can automatically convert sbs and ou content to framepacked 3d so that we don't need to select the 3d mode in the tv/pj.

Okay.. so I got lucky... and my friend sent my PJ to Chennai from Atlanta.. and i recd it on Friday evening.. I was very anxious and happy.. because he had sent it to me in its original packaging.. :) it was superb to get my hands on this PJ and my excitement knew no bounds.. :)

So a couple of observations as many FMs who own this projector have also mentioned...
- This is a superb VFM PJ.
- Dont get bogged down or worried if you are running the PJ on 250V.. If you look inside of the power plug socket on the PJ.. It says... 250V which is perfectly okay with Indian standards.. :)
- The 3D is superb... I watched Cloudy with a Chance (II), Iron Man 3, Avengers, Epic and Tintin using my PS3 which is a 3D player and May I say.. the 3D is just superb... You should get yourself a 3D blu ray player to do justice to this PJ... I could not get myself to complete any movie because I wanted to see how the other movies looked on the PJ :)
- The sainsonic glasses which I got with this PJ from US... is also awesome..lightweight, sturdy and did not give me strain at all...
- I have not yet finalised on a screen yet and will be auditioning a few this weekend...
- I have also not connected my PJ to an external sound source becos I dont have an AMP yet.. :( so as of now it gets connected to my Bose Wavelink and I enjoy the movie..
- I have lots of movies on my HD mostly 720p from the famous website whose name I cannot take on this forum... and trust me I watched Oblivion (full movie), Elysium (Full Movie) and The Hangover 3...the quality is just wow !!! Superb clarity... projecting on wall itself was more than enough... I am getting a 65-70 inch projection because the throw is around 7-8 feet...
- I am planning no ceiling mount for my PJ and will be using it on a wheeled cart for easy movement and storage...

Congrats tintin, enjoy your PJ after the long wait. Time to post some pictures too... I also agree to the point that a 3D blu ray player will surely do justice to the PJ with a good HT setup.

Congrats TinTin, Enjoy your new PJ. Mine is still lying in US  and no one to get it.. Not sure when i will be able to see my beauty. Meanwhile i will sulk..

Thank you all.... My heartfelt thanks and best wishes to all FMs who helped me take this decision... Without your support I dont think I would have taken the plunge at all.. :)

The best review for Acer H5370BD PJ - Given by my 2 year old daughter while watching a 3D documentary movie... "Daddy, look fishes are flying.." That was worth all the effort and wait !!!

Congrats Tintin. Enjoy the projector. You will be enjoying lot movie in the coming days with your projector. I will bet.

I recommend Sammy's Adventure part 1 & 2 in 3D. I would say this is the best 3d movie i loved in pop outs. guys who own 3d projectors should watch this. Demo worthy.

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
