Pioneer BDP-160K

Can anyone who own this player please comment on the video upscaling capability. How is the video for DVD when upscaled to 1080p? Does the upscaling work with SD content on USB drive as well?

There is no issue playing files from the USB. Its the interface..There is no way to jump to a certain chapter in a movie. You just have to forward and wait. DLNA just hangs the player. DLNA just doesn't work and I bought this player for the DLNA feature. But the blu-rays are playing perfectly alright..Got this for just 7K without warranty..Its region-A. Locally available disks in India are all region free (almost 99%). I haven't yet tested it with DVDs yet. VCDs would never play good on any LED/LCD TV. I have read reviews that this player does an outstanding job of upscaling DVDs to 1080P.

Thanks for your review. Hope others will share their reviews too.

I do not have much experience of high end cd player but so far it is working great for me. Could not observe much difference in sound quality via HDMI vs Analog.

I think it is very good. I have tried several DVD rips and watched through my projector. Yes USB playing capability is as good as Disk playing.

Regarding chatper change in a movie via USB, I think that depends on the rip. You can not skip the chapter but you can move ahead.

Hi, pioneer BDP 170 is now replaced with pioneer BDP 160. I am getting this latest 170 with bill for Rs.12,000. Is it a good deal and worth it. please advise.

Yesterday itself I have bought BDP-170 for Rs11000 with bill and warranty. The dealer over here says that this model is region free, but I still have to verify it. Can anyone please suggest, from where can I buy Region A and Region B Blu rays?

Best would be to borrow from friends or forum members if you only want to test.
See the region map and get from where convenient. Remember, import duty is 42% if you import directly from Amazon, etc . So best to get via someone travelling.

that's great news. the place from where you bought do online transaction ? I am interested in one for myself. and if it is true it is region free, then it is sone pe suhaaga :D
you can get a region B easily from amazon.uk. you need to spend as little as 600-700. please do let us know about the region free thing.

Recently I bought an used BDP-160 to use as audio transport and coupled it with Audio-gd NFB-3(2014) DAC, found immediate improvement in terms of details on high frequency and greater definition on low frequency side compared to my previous source partner Marantz NA7004. Still there is little tradeoff on bass weight. As a CD transport (selecting bitstream) it is sounding amazingly natural & real.

The surprising fact is, it can play FLAC files over Network (wifi) which it supposed to not as per Manual. Quite a bonus gift:ohyeah:. Though NA7004 also used to support FLAC over network.

Hi, he is a Onkyo dealer in Delhi. I am not sure if he will ship the unit outside NCT. If you want I can PM you his number. Regarding region free, I might take time to test. I will update you as soon as I am able to get some other region Blu-Ray Disc.
But till date my experience for the player is pretty good. I have watched two movies ZNMD and Gangs Of Wasseyypur-I, the picture quality and sound quality is awesome :clapping:. Even for YouTube, the player stream the videos pretty well.

Hi,
I bought the Pioneer BDP-160K about an year ago from a local retailer in Delhi for around 11,500. It is an imported model which has a built in wifi and two USB Slots and plays all DVDs but only India region specific Blu Rays. The performance of the player was extremely good with the DVDs looking good even on a Projecter screen of around 100 inches. There were initially issues with the Youtube function in terms of the player hanging and freezing at random. However, the issue was virtually entirely resolved after updating to the latest firmware. DLNA though, I have never been able to use. I do not know if its a lack of knowledge on my part or a player issue but the fact is that the DLNA command never responds. But, that isn't a drawback which concerns me greatly, what does however concerns me and which I think most consumers buying this player must take extreme care of is its power transmission error or switching on problems. This player has the tendency to heat up or something which makes it limited in the duration that one can use it at one go. And, if by chance you switch it off after a couple of hours or the electricity goes off then it takes its own good time to come back to life. You may have to wait nearly half an hour or even more for it to switch back on. Unfortunately, no one has any solution to this issue and it really is a major bug in this player, particularly in our country where the electric supply can be unpredictable. So, this issue coupled with its occassional tendency to freeze can cause lots of frustration. Be aware before you buy this model.

My experience is some what opposite with Pioneer BDP-160, in fact it is quite good. I enjoy DLNA and Youtube service using "serviio" and "Youtube cast" service respectively, no major problem for last 4 months. Youtube-cast very fun type of service I enjoy using my android mobile where Youtube contents can be play back on your TV using the mobile phone as remote control, contents get transferred from your mobile screen to TV.

However you have to remember BD-160 is like a computer. Possibility there, it can freeze due to connectivity issue or power outage or fluctuation. That is also an issue for almost all dlna based player or receiver. Just reset the player with front reset key, which you may not aware of. But you have to take care of the player using stable router for good network connectivity and use power back-up system with preventive measures for voltage fluctuations is must.

I do not know whether you have used proper dlna/Upnp server or not, You can try Serviio or TVMOBiLi installing at your pc. If you have android phone then try Bubble Upnp apps to share the content of the mobile with BD-160. A little network knowledge will make the whole task like a breeze.

Just mail them on [email protected] or [email protected] and tell them about your selected model and provide your country/address, they will send you quotation including shipping cost. Transfer the amount using paypal or other service if available. And that's it. They will ship the unit upon receiving the amount.
