whats ur budget ..u can get Samsung, sony ,Philips players..(less 10k budget)
Pioneer BDP (<20k budget ) if u want some region free then ur budget should be higher ,(try oppo >50k budget)

TryvPioneer bdp 170 whixhis the new model from pioneer and supports upto 2tb hdd. Also it has built in wifi and comes below 12k. I got one for 10500/- with bill and warranty. When it comes to bluray i think pioneer is known for having quality products and you can also take a look at reviews on the internet.

In case you buy blurays or dvds from outside india then they will not work on induan players as these discs have a code which is used by the player to decode. However if you dont intend buying discs from abroad why to worry. You must concentrate more on what are you looking for in a bluray player, features, price. If you don't intend buying bluray discs and are more used to connecting hdd then no point in spending extra on higher end. 10k is a decent budget for a bluray player. You won't regret. If more networking features, internet content playback is required then look at Samsung bd-h6500 which is very good for the features.

Thanks for feedback.

Any specific model in 3D blue ray player, which can play popular formats.
Haveing facility to connect USB & Portable Hard Disc 1TB.

I am not prefering to go with high end feathers like wi-fi / networking etc.

pl guide

Be sure of what are you planning to watch on your external USB HDD.
All Blu Ray Models released post 2012 have to have Cinevia built in.

Just FYI Cinevia is a multi-level watermark that is embedded in the audio track, and gets retained even on Blu Ray rips. Most of the new movies are Cinevia protected so you wont be able to watch these movies / backups of these movies unless you are playing it from the Original Blu Ray disc directly.

Hi
Samsung F5500 Bluray player which I'm using is approx Rs 7.6 k ,It supports 1 TB harddisk and has many features including network..
Cons I found is :
1) It has only 2 channel output ,however u r having AVR of YHT 299 ,so no problem -u can do bitstreaming settings in BDP ,so u 'll get 5.1 output while playing DTS,Dolby,True HD,DTSHDMA formats.
2) No LCD displays on BDP.

Rest everything works fine.
If u r not planning to buy Bluray discs from abroad ,then no worry for purchasing this.

Hey, How do you compare the Pioneer bdf 170 with Samsung BD-H6500; I bought the later one, very good product. Does the Pioneer process image and sound better than samsung? Bought samsung as the Pioneer was quoting around 16k, otherwise i would have gone for that as I have a wifi-enabled smart tv for network features.

One of my friend is interested in BD-H6500 as he don't have smart tv capabilities, so probably I can have an exchange if Pioneer is worth few thousand extra. What you guys think?

I do have a 48" 3D LED, and Onkyo HT.

If you want a smart and feature rich bluray player samsung is the way to go. If quality is a must and you are ready to miss the features of smart devices then pioneer is decent enough. Nonetheless i cannot comment much on Samsung vs pioneer. I just know that pioneer has specialised into audio and so went with that without much of comparing. Since the pioneer is now WiFi enabled its really a step up for the brand though features are not as good as what Samsung has to offer

From where did you get the Pioneer bdp170, I have checked in many outlets and its not available...

Thank you Rayvonnee and Shaiju,
Have you guys tried HTPC? I've a good PC, Can I replace a dedicated blu-ray player if I upgrade my desktop's internal DVD drive to a BluRay drive and install necessary software?

An HTPC will not be able to play any blu-ray discs out of the box.
Due to licensing constraints there is no "necessary software" that can make your HTPC as seamless as a BR player in terms of scanning through menus etc..

Whatever is available are only via workarounds and hacks.

The other option is you rip your Blu ray discs and then play them via your HTPC.

I have a Sony BDP which I bought in mid-2013. It acts as a very good media player as I am able to play all the downloaded contents through it. Luckily, haven't faced any issues yet.

If you are sourcing bds from outside (US and UK), then you can buy budget two budget bdp for US and UK region. This can turn out to be a lot cheaper than a all region expensive bdp.

On the other hand, you can go for HTPC if you have max downloaded content. I recently built one with E350N mb which costed me around 12-13K with a 2TB hdd. I am very satisfied with it.

Fairdeal Electronics near crawford market. They are dealers for home audio and pricing is like almost the best you can get at mumbai

I've been asking around for this model in Bangalore but none of the dealers seem to have any left. I'm in Coimbatore and the only dealer here has a few units left and is quoting 12k.

I guess I'll pick this up for the display and built in WiFi, both of which are missing from the Sony 4200.
