Hi,
My Marantz AVR SR6008 suffered 2 terrible white electrical sparks inside after a power cut. Currently it is not powering up or standby lights coming in. I guess the board or power part is gone. Though there was no burning smell. I am based in Odisha, there is none I know who can check or repair it here. Are there any possibilities where I can send the AVR and get it repaired ?🙏

There is one maranz authorized center in vizag. Speak with them and send the pics. If they are ok to do repair then courier them.
Address and phone number you can find in marantz web

Yes those are the fuses. But they all look fine. if a fuse blows, the thin wire strands will have a break and the glass will be blackened.
You are probably using the Marantz without a voltage stabilzer in a country with power supplied by Adani. The voltage tolerance is 240 +-10%. Don't use equpments without a voltage stabilizer

This board below (SMPS board) is most likely to fail at higher voltages. Do a thorough visual examination of this board under a strong light and see if there is anything burnt or has burn marks. There was a spark, so definitely something has got burnt. Hope it is not the transformer. I can see two fuses. One fuse surely looks intact. The other one I cannot see clearly.

One can also deploy a power tool which has the olfactory senses to smell burnt material. It could help you locate the board that has the problem.

🙏🙏🙏🙏 thanks so much. I have tried to see and smell if there is anything burnt but everything seems very usual. Only thing that I find little weird is under the board (may be near the transformer there are marks of orange coloured liquid spill but they are not wet and not seem recent. As the avr bought used from a forum member, I can’t guess it is normal or not. I will try to look closely and may use the tool you have suggested.
I was using a vguard stabilizer (a new one.. the old one is now attached to separate int.amp and sub). The old one was running for last 10 years, never had any problems. The most unfortunate thing that may caused the spark might be- I recently installed a home inverter, in this rented house near work place, which had already wiring for inverter.. but I didn’t know the sockets I was using for tv/avr/stereo amp were also on inverter line. With the powercut, power to the tv was uninterrupted but, there was 2 loud noisy sparks in the avr. I instantly got up and switched everything off. But the damages were done.

The way most of these AVRs work is like this.

1. The power cord goes to the SMPS board. The SMPS board supplies power for the digital boards. It also has a relay that switches on the transformer. If the board is fine, then the standby indicator will light up. There is a microprocessor on one of the digital boards which checks the voltage. If the voltages are fine, then the remote control works and also the power button works
2. The power cord also goes to safety capacitors. These are mostly blue or yellow or brown coloured capacitors. They also can blow in which case power supply to the entire board gets cut off.
3. The SMPS board is mostly fitted vertically and can be removed by unscrewing few screws. The power cord is connected to the board through a connector and this can be detached. Similarly there will be removable connectors from this board to the other boards. One can remove this board and examine it. What needs to be seen is if any of the capacitor look burnt or any of the fuse in this board is blown. With little bit of DIY you can fix it yourself.

🙏🙏🙏🙏 it gave me a thorough idea and boosted my confidence for the diy. Will definitely going to check it myself. Thanks so much for this help 🙏🙏

I am unable to get details of the vizag one. Do you know about the below? From the language of google reviews, appears genuine.
KASI ELECTRONICS (SERVICE CENTRE) AUTHORISED FOR YAMAHA DENON MARANTZ POLK AUDIO SONODYNE TAGA AND NX AUDIO Plot No.219,D.No.8-2-293/82/JIII/219,Road No.78, Jubilee Hills,Filmnagar,Hyderabad-500033, Hyderabad

If you are ok with sending the receiver to Chennai you can contact Mr.Vijayan - 98412 82784. He is based in Chennai. Some of the customers have sent the receivers from Kerala to get it serviced and he has promptly serviced and returned it back. I can also vouch for him as he repaired a Onkyo receiver with very minimal cost. He is a very genuine person. Check google reviews - https://g.co/kgs/DzWiL58
