Hi all,

My room size is about 180 sq. ft. I'm looking for two a/c-s for two such rooms. One room is below the open terrace and the other room has got cover above it.
I'm inclined towards Daikin or O-Gen and the third choice is Carrier.

O-Gen 1.5 T is quoted at 58.5k (with stabilizer & free installation; copper tube is extra)

Daikin 1.5 T is quoted at 55k (for R-410 model) and 52k (for R-32 model); however, R-32 is not favored due to its flammable properties.

However, the dealer is suggesting Sharp 1.1 ton citing the company brochure which will handle upto 180 sq. ft room (Price: 42 k) and if I opt for 1.5 ton, then it is quoted at 49.5k
This model comes with stabilzer, installation and copper tube (3m)

Samsung 1.5 T digital inverter model has got its 9 year warranty sales pitch for its compressor. I haven't checked the price for it yet.

So, with two rooms to take care of, I want to be on the right side. Dear members, could you please throw some light regarding these brands?

Looking forward for your valuable inputs.

Cheers!
BK
P.S: Please be aware that all the models discussed above are inverter models only!

If your room doesnt get any sunlight..then 1.1T is little safe.

If your room has sunlight 1.5 must

Thanks invisible. Let me clarify more about the layout.
It's Ground Floor + First Floor + Open terrace.
One of the rooms is on the ground floor which has got a open space (as of now) of about 40'-45' on the west side. So, during the afternoons and evening, this ground floor room is getting it's fair share of sunbathing. :ohyeah: It's considerably warm in there.

And then, the next room for which I'm looking for the a/c is on the first floor. This room has got open terrace on top along with 60' depth of open space on its west side (due to neighbor's open space orientation). I haven't yet done any false ceiling in this room. So, this room is also getting it's fair share of sunbathing.

Based on my recent buying experience, I certainly won't suggest you buy a 1 or 1.1T ac. Anyway 1T to 1.5T is only a max. 10K jump in price, so I suggest you buy 1.5T.

For my 140 sq ft home office, I have been recommended a Sharp 1.1T. The dealer told me not to pay heed to the Sharp sizing chart. I was planning to buy a Panasonic 0.75T earlier.

I don't think open space is relevant to the equation. West facing in the key point and the problem that I too am having because the room heats up considerably by evening and becomes unbearable at night. In fact, it is cooler for me to be outside the house except for the mosquitoes.

Your first floor could heat up much more considering the open terrace above as your layout is similar to mine. Surprisingly, Sharp seems to think that upper rooms heat less.

Toshiba, Hitachi, Mitsubishi, O General and Daikin appear to have very poor service in India.

Daikin seems to be considered the best AC by many, but their pricing is not competitive. In Bangalore, Daikin seems to be sold by many small operators. Also bear in mind that Daikin does not include an installation kit, so you have to pay 5-9K extra to install. One dealer I spoke to in the morning quoted 9K for installation and pitched to me how he uses the best copper tubes and wraps them in extra PVC tubing and so on which left me feeling very confused and helpless.

For the same reason mentioned by you, I was put off by the R32 gas. Correct me if I am wrong, but I thought only the heat pump models in Daikin have R410A.

I will not touch LG or Samsung with a barge-pole. They are flimsy and seem to be behind the curve compared to Daikin, Panasonic and Sharp. This has also been my experience from other Samsung products.

I would suggest the Sharp 1.5T PET or PHT for you based on the fact that I have just placed an order for the 1.1T PHT. They are considerably advanced with very high COP (which Sharp mistakenly calls EER w/w) at 4+. Their 1.5T is more efficient than the 1.1T.

don't ever go for 1 or 1.1 T in Chennai even for a 100 sqft room( i learnt the wrong way), that too with an open terrace. We have OG 1.5 ton and Daikin 1.5 ton inverter models in our home. OG is far ahead in the way it cools the room when compared to Daikin. Also even though they don't advertise all their features, their Acs come loaded. Also Daikin maintenance is costlier compared to OG, first year AMC was quoted at 8K+. Also if you are going the inverter way, make sure you get the 2T model for your room size.

You can checkout all these models from Rathna fan house TNagar. I am not suggesting you to buy from them, but you can see all the models in person and compare all the features first hand before going by the cheapest dealer option.

Could you please share on what are all covered/done for 8k+ AMC charges? Thanks. Isn't the first year's warranty enough?

I'm thinking of staying with 1.5T as I plan to add false ceiling with thermal proofing (with flexi thermocol), window panes getting plain sun film (the same kind which is used for car's windshields).

And my builder is recommending one "super cool" paint mix (I don't know who manufactures it; I'll do some market survey and write about it later). Open terrace and the west side walls which get direct sun light are going to be painted with it (except the front elevation [south side]). This coat, he says, will reduce radiation seeping into the room through the concrete and brick walls.

With such thermal proofing, 1.5T would suffice, I guess. Well! I haven't thought about 2T. So, let me check it out too.

AMC is basically:

1. Cleaning the indoor unit filters. This is something even you can do very easily.
2. Cleaning the outdoor unit filters. This I cannot do as I am unable to hop around on ledges like the AC guys do.
3. Checking the gas pressure.

For Panasonic, Sharp, LG, Samsung, etc. it is Rs. 350 per visit (includes cleaning of indoor and outdoor units). I use this for my LG AC only whenever required which is usually once in 2 years. The only time I got an AMC was when I had to pay Rs. 1,800 odd for gas whereas the AMC cost around Rs. 1,400 odd. The LG technician himself suggested I get a 1-year AMC.

Please note that these AMCs do not cover parts which are billed extra.

I checked with Sharp and their AMC is around Rs. 1,500, but I have no plans to take it. As mentioned by you, 1st year is any way covered by warranty and today I learnt that Sharp provides 3 free services in the 1st year (Don't know if one service is already used up, but it should be fine still).

8K+ seems quite steep, perhaps parts are included in the Daikin AMC? Still, it looks very high.

@MJ23Bulls: What do you use the upstairs room for? Is that AC going to be used all day? FOSROC manufactures reflective paint for the roof (Brushbond Coolcoat). You can get a painter to apply this, it only takes a day for an entire roof. FOSROC people are usually helpful and will give you instructions. Please buy the reflective paint from a reputable vendor and do not go for local mix-n-match solutions, they are rarely effective and hardly last.

@nowwhat?
Thanks for your clarifications regarding the AMC procedures.

Even my current LG & Panasonic non-inverter models have got 3 free services during the first year. As you've mentioned it's all about cleaning the IDU & ODUs and checking the gas pressure. When my panasonic ran out of gas due to leakage within 2 or 3 months from installation, the Rathna Fan House people recharged the gas free of cost saying, "It's still under warranty" (Very nice of them :clapping: ; they could've just said it's out of warranty)

@MJ23Bulls: What do you use the upstairs room for? Is that AC going to be used all day?
First Floor is our home; & my in-laws live downstairs. 9-yr old LG has gone kaput downstairs. We don't want to spend on this old mahine. Hence, investing in a new one.
Upstairs is for my daughter's bedroom. Yes! Most likely the a/c will be used for 8-10 hrs/day

Thanks for the tip! I'll start looking around for this one. As I said in my previous message, along with the roof, the western walls too need a coating of this reflective paint as this section is in direct contact with direct sun light during afternoon. On the eastern side, we've got an apartment building which keeps us cool till around 9:00-10:00~ am.

Mushtaq, an employee of SHARP contacted me & quotes given by him

As we've been looking into these various options for the past couple of weeks, the search was going nowhere. From OGen to Daikin to Hitachi to Pana to more expensive Mitsubishi. I've almost zeored down on SHARP (Fortunately, I didn't buy it yesterday at a much higher price than the price quoted by Mushtaq today, as in the above link). However, main concern with SHARP is it's sans copper build. Though RishiGuru's review has explained very nicely about it's value, my wife, my brother and most importantly my in-laws were all pro copper. I was the only person to say "aye" for the SHARP. :Minority:
So, it's O-Gen all the way. 1.5 T for 180 sq.ft FF room & 1T for ~130 sq.ft GF room.
1,000/- Installation charges for each
55,500/- 1.5T 18JCC (includes stabilizer)
39,990/- 1 T 13JLCA (includes stabilizer)
Copper tube extra @ 750/- per meter

Got them delivered today (13th). Installation will be by tomorrow (14th), hopefully

Hey guys, reviving this thread and would appreciate if others start pitching in too.
After lot of deliberation I have bought the Sharp 1.5t x18PET inverter model. After lots of haggling bought it for 41.5k including installation.
I hope it's a good price for it. Heard loads of positive review on sharp inverter on various online forums, so I too took the plunge.
I hope the after sales in Gurgaon is also as good as the product.
The model I bought is the one without the plasma cluster tech. I didn't need it as I already have a Amfah Air purifier with ions in my room.
Would request members using sharp inverter n other inverters to pitch in with their review and electricity savings.

Hey... I got it from the exclusive sharp dealership owned by Dawar's Open world at the Plaza mall on MG Rd Gurgaon.
The plasma cluster model price I got was 43k from Sargam Electronics, SEC 29 Gurgaon n similar price from vijay sales too.
If u go thru various forums online, people have got this for similar prices but 1-2 yrs back, so I feel I got a good deal.
The ac I got it down to flat 40k...the 1.5k is the additional installation charges which is standard with every dealership.

VijaySales Noida quoted 48k to me which im seeing was a rip off. Will try the stores you have mentioned .

Got 43 rate as well from Sargam . :clapping:

Well...vijay sakes here in Ggn quoted me 45k and then I bought it down to 43k for PMT. From Sargam i got the PET model down to 41k + install?
Imagine what was the MRP listed as for both...50k+

Then saw this exclusive Sharp dealership n just told them that I already have a quote for 41k nif u can give me anything lower I will buy from you. They where stuck at 41k too as according to them its the lowest anyone can go. But I just refused n then they came down to 40.5k n then I said let's finish it at 40k. For a second I forgot that install is always extra n I couldve tried for 40k including install...hehehe.

I am also glad this is the only brand which comes included with install kit which is easily worth additional 3-4k.
Though can't comment on its performance as of now n if we go by the numerous postive only reviews especially in regards to its power savings n tech.
I don't see any reason going for any other inverter AC other rthen sharp if we see the savings n its VFM tag after haggling.

Sargam also gave me initial quote of 48k but then i mentioned a friend bought for 43k .. he at once agreed to match price. Im sure vijay sales will also follow suit. Will try the sharp dealer next to see if a few extra bucks can be saved .
Sargam has quoted me 43k +1500 install+750 stand + 500 friegt to noida... ( since sargam is in GGN).. and yes MRP was 57 in VIjay Sales :D
