301 for sale in Mumbai

G401fan, I'm not in any physical proximity to make this purchase. But just curious what kind of prices would be considered reasonable for a 301 in India? This one here appears to be in pristine shape...

I did speak to the seller, and he wanted 70K for the 301, but said the price was negotiable. He sounded reasonable, said he was downsizing, as he also had a 401 which he intended to keep.

The arm on the 301 looks to be a 3009 Type I (non-improved), which itself might be worth 20-25K at today's prices.

To bugsnest's query: A 301/401 might have been got within 10K up to 3 years ago, but the recent vinyl resurgence, and increased visibility of idler drives (incl. Thorens 124/Lenco L75) on eBay has sent local prices skyrocketing, that too, despite the absence of any professional refurbishing services available in India.

G401fan, agree with the refurbishing part. Usually the pieces are quite dirty if looked at from underneath and merely stuffing the machine into a new plinth will not make it the equivalent of a $10,000 turntable as many a time has been written on this forum...

The risk associated with buying from the usual re-sellers (not in this instance, but generally) is that you cannot be always sure that you are buying a 100% original.

It is common for one to buy a TT and open it up, only to find a lot of patchwork using stand-in replacement components.

Being a regular seller myself gets amused by such " rare" stuffs pricing and many times in the condition it is available.
But sadly many times the " bragging salesman" gets more customers that the honest one. Last year fm denom was selling Lenco L75 in stock condition - it was near mint , working , built in wooden box - only cartride was average. I was helping him..

It took us long to sell as we were brutally honest .. and same times we saw lot of TTs were sold online which were nowhere near this...:rolleyes:

it makes more sense to buy from ebay. eg I bought a completely serviced lenco from the UK 2 years back and including DHL shipping (3 day) + duty it only came to Rs20k !!

here these start at 30K..

+1 to that. I've even known of buyers quoting ridiculously low prices just because there are small negligible cosmetic issues.

i have purchased my LP 12 from same gentleman. i feel im very lucky to have got such a decent player at that rate. enjoying every minute of it.

He is a nice guy and has a passion for LP's and Vintage stereo. his current setup is a G401 running thru a Vintage Yamaha amp, powering a vintage Tannoy Monitor. has a decent collection of Lp's too.

he has painted this unit obviously...but for the price, i think it's a steal, as it comes with a tonearm too.. i wish i had the space for it..would;ve got it in a heartbeat (if it's not sold already!!)

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
