I am in dilemma whether to go for 32 inches full hd led tv or 40 inches full hd tv led tv . I'll be watching 99% of the time only sd content i.e tamil regional channels and only cricket in hd.(1%)
So will sd content be good in 40 inches tv at a distance of 7 feet in tatasky hd+ stb. Please clarify my doubt.

When 32"? For bedroom as a 2nd TV, viewing distance is less than 8', personal viewing, not wishing to spend a lot on 2nd TV.

When 40"+? Viewing distance 8'+, main TV in hall, whole family audience, want to immerse into the viewing experience, and maybe paired with an HT (today or in future).

I will be watching 99% of time only sd channels(tamil channels like sun tv etc)through tatasky hd + stb. Is it wise to go for led or plasma.Given my budget of 60-65k at 2 viewing distances i.e 7 feet or 14 feet.I am confused after many forum members have purchased 40 + inch. So i want to know, what is the appropriate size of tv to go for my house

Remember that for a Full HD TV the viewing distance must be within 1.6 times the diagonal size of the screen if you want to see difference between FHD and HD ready sets. Beyond that it becomes difficult to distinguish the difference.

Since :lol:99% of the times you watch SD content, i guess it would be wise to go for a Plasma if you want a big picture of SD content..

buy plasma.once u see movie in plasma u wont try led and lcd.try it.go to a showroom and try same hd file side by side in plasma, lcd and led.also plasmas are cheap.34k u will get semi hd panny plasma.
I hate leds.......all movies look like hd tv series.......

I went to reliance store yesterday in Mount road, chennai and saw Panasonic 42X50 and Samsung 405000R LED TV side-by-side displaying same SD channel. I must say picture appeared better in LED than plasma. Also, the reflection on the plasma screen is high enough to get our attention and is not something to overlook at while buying a HDTV.

I was in favor of buying plasma myself yesterday morning, but since evening, I am looking for the best LED that meets my needs at cheapest possible price. My advise for you is to go to any multi-brand shop in your city and see the difference by yourself by asking the sales guy to play SD channels on them. I think many of the people in this forum are biased to both LED or plasma. Everyone thinks what they bought is best, otherwise there wont be any excitement in buying a new HDTV.

If one is aiming for 32", I feel that full HD is not necessary. You will not get any FHD benefit. Today, I was in the Panasonic showroom (to collect my warranty card) and I was looking at small size screens. There was full HD LED and HD-R LCD running side by side. No difference at 5+ feet.

just4kix and other experts in the forum, i want your intervention in my case, because my confusion has increased further to which one to buy,and i am not able to come to a conclusion, after some people have recommended plasma and some people have recommended led.Once more i will clearly write my viewing requirements.kindly guide me in which tv model should i go for:

1.viewing distance-7feet(windows opposite) and 14 feet(no window opposite)
2.budget-60-65k but can extend maximum upto 70k
3.watching standard definition movies in tamil channels(99% of the time) via tatasky hd+ dth.
4..40+ inches above screen size.
5.best picture quality.
6.best after sales service.

also does plasma require maintenance (should be cautious while using) from our part to prevent burn-in, IR etc and how is panasonic's after sales support.

Welcome to the world of confusion. I was just as confused.

1.viewing distance-7feet(windows opposite) and 14 feet(no window opposite)
I am assuming that these are two separate locations for installing the TV.

Viewing distance ===> Recommended TV panel size
upto 7 feet windows opposite ===> 32" to 42" - LED recommended unless you can cover the windows with dark/heavy drapes.
14 feet, no window opposite ===> 42" to 50" - Plasma recommended. LED also OK.

2.budget-60-65k but can extend maximum upto 70k
You will get 40~42" LED TV (lots of them) in that budget or 42" plasma (Panasonic 42UT50) or 50" plasma (Panasonic 50XT50).

3.watching standard definition movies in tamil channels(99% of the time) via tatasky hd+ dth.
Very large size is not recommended. 42" is the optimum size for this purpose.

4..40+ inches above screen size.
Considering all aspects, 40~42" is the best size for you. We shall come to plasma or LED later.

5.best picture quality.
Plasma has best PQ but LED is not way off behind.

6.best after sales service
I think that LG and Samsung have best ASS (no pun intended). :)

Plasma or LED
Go for plasma for best PQ, best blacks, best response time, most natural colours, larger size panel, etc. But LED should be chosen if you watch mostly cable/DTH. Indian movies (whether Hindi or Tamil) are not known for intense black levels, details in shadows, very fast action, etc. They are more pomp and show, colourful, bright, song and dance, stinking rich palatial homes, wonderfully dressed characters, etc. Since you watch a lot of such movies, plasma is not really necessary. In my opinion, you are better off with an LED TV.

Never buy 40incher, you will cry for that decision.
Sd content ->32inch

most flat panels show broken squares and there will be constant
dissapointment .

Although you want to keep big tv but dont fall onto that temptation.
32LCD also in 25K will do .
After 2 years upgrade when HD bills + tv prices will go low.

Thank you.

Unlike some bashers here, I tend to advise people on their true needs. I am a plasma fan but plasma is not always suitable for all people.
