Hi,

My friend is confused on buying a 32" LED TV.

Last time when he visited a showroom, the sales guy told him that Sony is using the same old panel which shows water-mark when pressed with a thumb/finger. He have been told that LG/Panasonic/Samsung has moved to a different type of panel which is tougher and more durable.

Can anybody confirm that, if it is a fact or myth?

He is looking buy a 32" LED with budget of Rs. 50K max.

Thanks in advance.

The tougher panel they are talking about is IPS panel mainly used by LG and newer Sony TVs. IMO, PQ should be the important factor while looking for a TV. Afterall who is gonna press their TV?

Thanks Baijuxavior.

Yes, I also agree with you. The PQ should be the highest priority. But he is concerned about the longevity. You know how general customers get brain washed by the salesmen :indifferent14:

After going through different threads in the forum, I found Sony W900 series is a good buy. Which make & model do you suggest?

All suggestions are welcome.

Hi,

I, too, am looking to buy 32" LED TV. I live in Bangalore, India. A Cousin of mine offered to buy me a TV from Abu Dhabi, UAE.
My requirements:
1. Picture Quality should be very good. I read Backlit LED is the best but Sony site says Edge is great and it will give thin bezel. A little confused !!
2. Audio should be crisp and loud.
3. HD Ready should be fine (as I read in other posts that full HD will make sense only for 40" or above). Moreover I only have a standard defn set top box & no HD set top box.
4. USB playback for movies - should support wide variety of formats from both thumbdrive and external Harddisk.
5. No need for SMART features (no need for Wifi, internet, skype). I need the basic features only.
6. No need for 3D either.

I see "Toshiba 32PU200ZE 32" LED TV (Black)" fits my requirement. But I also want to know options in Sony and other brands.

Backlit LED with local dimming control is the best. Unfortunately, the "with local dimming control" is found only in the very top end LED TVs and those are not available in 32" sizes - or very rarely ever and price is atrocious. So next best is edgelit LED. There are plain backlit LEDs with no local dimming which are lowermost strata of LEDs.

2. Audio should be crisp and loud.
This is a hit and miss. Generally don't expect great sound in flat panel TVs.

3. HD Ready should be fine (as I read in other posts that full HD will make sense only for 40" or above). Moreover I only have a standard defn set top box & no HD set top box.
Your thinking is in the right direction. True HD makes sense in large size and when viewing true HD stuff via blu-ray.

Samsung and LG the best in this regard. Sony is a bit of a laggard but not by much. You should confirm on the website. Most TVs support standard media playback of AVI (DVix/Xvid), MKV, etc.

Sony will be costlier. Do a demo of various models. Keep the price bracket limited to 30K and below.

Hi Just4kix and others,

I also am checking specs of Sony EX330 Series BRAVIA Direct LED TV.
KLV-32EX330 : EX330 Series : BRAVIA HD TV (LED & LCD) : Sony India

It says "USB Play: Yes (Video, Music, Photo) (USB viewer supports FAT16, FAT32 and exFAT file systems)". It doesn't say NTFS. Does it mean it has restrictions on playing files of some size? Moreover I have a 1 TB HDD, which I am not sure NTFS or FAT, full of movies. Also I learnt that Sony supports XVid but no DivX. So some AVI files won't play. What do you think about it?

NTFS will not be supported. Your 1TB drive will most likely be NTFS formatted. But don't despair about the TV - you can buy an external media player which will do your job.
