3D BluRay Player?

How about the following, some lights pls
1. Processor that will be able to pull the load of 3D (SBS) in future
2. Mobo with Remote (must) with expansion options that will be able to support future 3D (SBS as per sam9s) graphics cards, for now 2D GPU
3. 2D GPU with HDMI 1.3 out but should be able to bitstream 7.1 HD audio alongwith 1080p, in future 3D GPU hope will be just GPU upgrade.
4. RAM minimum to support good 2D for now but mobo to support more for future 3D
5. 250GB SATA HDD (5400 is fine over 7200 rpm if the former is cheaper)
6. Zotac (ref suggestion from sam9s from another thread) like slim cabinet that is not vertical.
8. External Blue Ray Writer (USB) / Internal BD Writer (Writer is a must, no point in going for a ROM only option now and later on upgrading) but this must be able to play 3D in future.
9. Wifi Card and Bluetooth Cards are optional and to limit cost can be discarded for now
10. USB + HDMI cable etc are optional and I alrwady have some in stock.

1. As a option look at my config in my signature. AMD will turn out to be a bit cheaper than Intel.
2. Steping down from from 3D enabled (Nvidia) to 2D will not save much money. So stick with GT430. It will also meet your sound requirements.
3. If you are going for HTPC then don't try to save on storage, go for at least 1TB hard disk.
4. Ram is cheap go for more ram.
5. Wireless key board+mouse from logitech is good and I don't think one needs a remote after that, a motherboard with remote will be expensive you can ditch that unless you absolutely want it.

Can you put a tentative cost around the 9-10 items i gave in my earlier email? and moreover I wanted to check on power consumption of these HTPC when say running a BR-RIP or playing a BD.
 
unfortunately I do not know the current prices, I bought my pc about 10 months back so can't help you there. The only thing I can say is that I bought the Gt430 for 4 thousand about 3 months back and now its supposedly available for about 3500.
 
What seems to me is that anyone within 10-15K budget should go for BDPs only and around 20K is what is minimum required to get a equivalent HTPC.

Ofcourse HTPC have the obvious compionent upgrade flexibility but with higher initial cost. For average less tech-savvy users it should be still BDP.

However given the idea in this forum, I will take time in researching for HTPC before deciding on HTPC or imported Region Free BDP.
 
Finally I purchased my 3D Blu Ray Player and its Sony BDP-S480. DVD Region Free. So all my DVDs are playing :) which I purchased from US & UK. We can make it region free for Blu Ray Disc as well but I need to speak to the service center. The player is really cool it also reads my 1TB USB Drive and plays my MKV files and other formats as well except few MKV files. But thats ok as It is playing on my LG 3D TV.

It's really playing well and great picture quality. 3D content is awesome. I guess Finally my problem is solved. :)

Congrats! So the confusion is finally over and you got yourself a 3D Blu-ray Player. Would you like to share all its specifications with us here? We would also like to know the price you paid for it.

Where did you buy ? So how much you paid for it ?

Can you pls check with Sony Service to confirm whether Bluray can be made region free and update us ? Thankx !

I purchased it from Reliance Digital Store, Banjara Hills (Hyderabad). I payed Rs. 14,500 and 2 Free Titles (3D Blu-Ray). I checked with them and they said we can not do it. But I am sure there is a way, I am just waiting for the right info. There are number of people tried and also posted the process to make it region free. :) Will update once I crack it.
