Hi,

One of my friend is going to Thailand and has offered to get TV for me. I am excited as TV prices in Thailand are much cheaper than the prices of same model in India. Only thing is that he will not have much of the time for shopping and hence I have to confirm him the make and model number.

I am looking for the 40" LED (or 46" if the price is good). Main criteria is good SD and HD picture quality ( in slow or fast moving scenes), good sound and the option to connect home theater system/ laptop.

I have budget of approx INR 40k. Based on it I have selected following models: (Sony and Samsung so far)

Sony: (Some of the below mentioned models are discountinued in India, but are still available in Thailand as per the Sony website)
40ex520 (Smart LCD TV) : KDL-40EX520 : EX520 Series : BRAVIA HD TV (LED & LCD) : Sony Thailand
40ex430 (one of the latest LED model, but no smart features) : KLV-40EX430 : EX430 Series : BRAVIA HD TV (LED & LCD) : Sony Thailand
CX520 (smart LCD TV): KDL-46CX520 : CX520 Series : BRAVIA HD TV (LED & LCD) : Sony Thailand
BX450 ( 46" full HD at cheaper price) : KLV-46BX450 : BX450 Series : BRAVIA HD TV (LED & LCD) : Sony Thailand

Samsung:
ES5600 (Smart LED TV)

But if the prices there are good and some offers are available then I would like to go in for either Sony EX650 or Samsung ES6220.

Please advise which TV should I choose in both the budget category . Is there any other TV which I should consider ( I am looking only for LED/LCD TV).

Thanks

As per your requirement EX520/EX650 will do...both models are same..only difference is EX650 has motion flow 100...

Thanks Lake1988.. Will it create any noticable issue/ differnece while watching HD or SD channels in cable TV/ DTH or blueray movies? ( I am not not into gaming and will be upgrading my self from Samsung 29" CRT).

Also how about EX430 vs EX 520?

No It will not create any noticeable difference..though this year model EX650 got more brighter panel..
Not sure how EX520 differs from EX430..but EX520 got x-reality pic engine while EX430 got Bravia pic engine.
X-Reality is superior in producing better pic quality and have better calibration options..

Though demo all models yourself.

between ur modesl no doubt ex650 is the best.
but just a suggestion why are not you considering plasmas as they offer superior picture bigger size at a less price.
like the plasmas in range of ex 650 price will outperfrom ex650....like that..
however they have thier own negative points like reflection and mainly IR preventavie maintanace.....
just a suggestion no offence....
also demo is very very imp to understand your choice..as plasmas and leds offer different color pallate...so you may love plasma or hate plasma...

Prosenjit, in you signature you have mentioned that you own 40BX. This is also full HD TV. How is it for viewing HD and SD channels?
As per Sony Thailand site MRP of this 46" model is 23990 Baht!

its a ccfl lcd model(not an led-lcd) and an entry level one.although it has real good picture after some tweak and with good files.....SD is not that good.hd is fantastic
i like its picture than costlier sammy or lg leds:ohyeah:

Ok, so its picture quality looks great since you also have also tested it with tatasky HD. Does it give blur in fast moving sequence ( movies/ news/ serials)?

only experinced that with a scene of bond the world is not enough boat chasing scene...no blur..but lag
surprisingly the lag was in ex650 also...tested...may be the recording do have the problem,as the problem i saw in panasonic entry plasmas also....never checked that scene with high end tvs...

I possess the 40" EX430. It has all the basics in place, at least all the necessary settings one would play around with while setting the LED initially to achieve the desired results.

Both SD and HD play extemely well, if I have to compare with my earlier 29" CRT. Obviously, I never desired for 'smart' features.

I bought the LED thru the grey route @ 37K. Indeed prices in Thailand for this set would be more attractive. You could ask your friend to check whether a 46" is available (I think so is present). That could be a nice buy!

Hi moday,
I would like share another pespective in buying a new HDTV. While you can decide on which model/brand to go for (plasma or LED - Sony or Samsung or Panasonic), please be careful while buying from outside India due to warranty issues. Even if it costs 10k to 12k extra in India, my personal opinion is to get it done in India. COmpared to old CRT TVs, modern HDTVs have more failure percentage due to the complex design/manufacturing of the panels.
This is just one pesrpective that you can take into account while buying the TV.

To get a 40 inch HDTV, the cheapest budget that you might have to shed would be around 50k. So why not spend the additional 10k and get a peace of mind ? Most of the 40 inch LED/LCD Tvs that you are looking from Sony/Samsung would be in higher 50k (some where around 57k to 60k). You may get similar sized Plasmas (Panasonic/Samsung) around close to 50k or even slightly lesser than that.

^ well a metter to be though very seroiusly...apart from the warranty issue,a tv a is very fragile item from bangkok to india...unlike an avr or camera....
in india there are 42 inchers under and above 50k bracket...

From what I have heard, airlines do not accept heavier plasma cartons without paying excess baggage charges. Do verify.

How about the following two LG models: 42LM5800 and 42LM6400. They are 3D smart TV.
Main +ve point for me in this TV is that it also has Widi support.

Purchase the Audiolab 6000A Integrated Amplifier at a special offer price.
