40 LED..fair for SD cable channels/HDD Movies. Sony or Samsung

Hi all,

I'm looking to buy a 40/42 LED. I want to buy Sony/Samsung

Please let me know your suggestions. My requirements I put them below

1. I'm looking for good PQ and good quality Audio output
2. Play movies from my HDD

Not much interested in WiFi / Smart / Internet
Importantly I will NOT go for any HD channels


I've seen Samsung 5100 and Sony 670A. Would like to buy one tomorrow.

All reviews are for HD in mind. Could any one tell me your experience on how normal cable channels look on 40/42 LED's.

Read that Sony has some problem to play some formats (.mkv) and detecting 1TB HDD. Is it true..are they rectified now.

IMO sony PQ looked richer (that's my feeling). But it has internet features which i might never use.

And how about the audio..sony seems to have 2x8W and sam 2x10W..does it mean sam give better audio.

Kindly suggest.

P.S. I dont want to raise topic between Sony / Samsung..both are good brands..would like your suggestions on which might be best suit for some like me with above stated requirements. Sincere Thanks for your time !

I'd pick W670 anytime, and SD picture quality depends on the source, if it's cable then below average, if it's a good DTH like AirTel or Tata Sky then above average and watchable, but honestly when you're going for a big T.V like 42" you should consider HD DTH service, once you watch it you'll see how much it's worth it, but yeah if you're not into sports or movies or those Discovery/NGC stuffs then no need to go for HD.

go for samsung 40f5000 or sony42w650.....both are very good for normal SD channels...take a demo and pick the one you like....all the best....
