I need a 40/42 inch TV for my bedroom to watch mostly movies from a distance of 13 feet.

It will be hooked to a PC (so no plasma)

After doing some research I've come to the conclusion that LEDs are hugely overhyped. Apart from a little thinness, miniscule power savings and an inflated price, I could see no obvious advantage over LCDs (if there are any, please let me know).

Personally, I believe 3D is a scam at this stage (since there's hardly any content and the technology is still in its infancy)

Internet (smart) capabilities is also a useless feature for me (since I'm gonna hook it to a computer anyway).

So now, which is the ABSOLUTE BEST LCD available in India at the moment PURELY IN TERMS OF PQ (im gonna buy by the end of the month)

Any advice from the gurus will be greatly appreciated.

You are in Delhi, so go out and visit as many shops as possible. Select the model you find good and bargain price at other shops with the exact model number. Prices starts from 32K ( seen in Kochi for a model of Hyundai with 4 year warrenty in the NEXT shop. ). A decent one is available for 49-45K.

+1 ..40" CX520 can be a good choice....Infact i am also inclined towards this model and shall buy the same within couple of days....M getting a decent price in Grey Market

Well all LED tvs are LCDs with LED as their light source.
If you simply want the best lcd in terms of PQ get ready to spend 1.5lakh for the HX925 its a lcd with backlight LED with local dimming.

If just want a lcd with CCFL backlight settle for the Sony 40CX520 comes with a SPVA panel, its rival samsung D550 is also good but comes with a SMVA panel.

Many thanks for all the replies

No Hyundais please. Only Sony/Samsung/Panasonic

Get the samsung D550 and call it a day.

Yes, I really liked this one. Was just wondering if there's anything better. Jumbo's giving it for 45k.

Can you tell me how much you're getting it for? And in which shop in Gaffar? I have never bought anything from grey market, so a little nervous about gaffar.

HX925 has monolithic design/3D/Internet. Exactly the things I dont want to waste money on.

CX520 and D550 are on the shortlist but haven't been able to compare them side by side yet.

Doesn't D550 have the SPVA at all? (The Jumbo guy's agreed to let me choose the panel in his warehouse.)

So can i conclude I can't do better then these two (given my specific requirements)?

Strangely, no Panasonic suggestions?

HX925 has the same internet features as a economy model such as CX520,you are mainly paying for the PQ not the internet or 3d or monolithic design(its does come with anti glare and is a gorilla glass)

If you can get to choose the panel in the warehouse then it worth trying, but to date upon my own findings and D550 owners feedback they all have got SMVA panel.

1.5 lakh is way too much for a 40 inch. (I'm planning to get a 50 inch plasma for my living room later and my budget for THAT is <1lakh)

But since you say HX925 is the best, I'll check it out and benchmark others to it.

My only requirement is
1 -- 40/42 inch screen
2 -- great PQ

I'm willing to spend 40-50k for this

With my untrained eye, I can't even make out the difference between HD and HD ready at a distance of 13 feet. And though I felt some LEDs were sharper/brighter than LCDs, I didnt find the difference worth the inflated price.

Am I missing something here?

Can I conclude CX520 is the TV to go for?

1.50lakh is for the 46" ,there is no 40" size HX92 series.

If you are not bothered about the lack of MKV playback or support for NTFS HDD in the Sony CX520 ,then yes its a good choice.
If you don't mind the lack of 1 year warranty you can save yourself a huge cash by buying in the grey market where it cost less then 40k and i believe delhi is one of the cheapest places to buy grey market stuff.

As the viewing distance increases at some point one can't differentiate between SD and FHD.

On final query:

In your valuable opinion, which is the BEST 40-42 inch TV for 40-50k (Grey market price)? (since CX520 is less than 40k and i can stretch my budget a little further)

You can get the EX520 basically you get lower power consumption and thinner profile, should cost about 50k or less.

My requirements was exactly the same ... So this thread helped me a lot in coming down to a conclusion .. Thanks everyone ...

Are there any LED Matrix based displays? Now-a-days all the LED-LCD I find are edge-lit.

LED Matrix behind LCD Can give pretty good black levels and good backlight uniformity. However they can never be as slim as the edgelit panels.

Go to Reliance Digital or Croma and have an analytical look at all LCD displayed side by side. Compare the picture quality in terms of change in sharpness, brightness and color from extreme side angle. Make sure Panasonic is among the models on display. I am sure you will be at ease to take decision.
