I am looking to pick up a 42" LED from Malaysia and would appreciate your advice. I don't game at all and the TV will be primarily for Movies and Sports viewing.

I don't like LG as a brand burnt by their poor quality with both my refrigerator and washing machine purchases and am trying to avoid another LG.

What should i look for in a TV I understand most of the TV's available in India are either manufactured in Malaysia or Thailand.

This will be my first purchase from Malaysia and any other caveats would be very welcome as well.

Cheers

P.S. I am not keen on 3D as I don't have any content for it anyway and wearing 3D glasses is not something I particularly enjoy doing in fact this was one of the reasons why I didn't go for 46" as 3D seems to be standard in that size

Since Sony has a manufacturing plant in Malasia, you can get yourself a 40hx850 maybe for a lesser price.
Regarding PQ, it is a reference led for the year 2012.

Thank you Dirac one more question. How is the 42W674A compared to the W650. It's available for Rs. 42,000 approximately in Singapore. It's 2" bigger but does it use the same panel and specs?

I too am purchasing a 40" LED. Ex 650 was my initial choice, but now am going to opt for the hx750, after demoing the current models (w650, w800) . Check the hx750 too.

I went to the nearby Reliance and Croma stores and the prices seem to be fairly comparable to what I am getting in Malaysia make me wonder if getting the TV from there is worth the hassle? Sure there are some newer models available which are not yet released here but i am really in two minds.

My personal opinion is avoid buying TVs from abroad due to warranty issues. Do you get waranty covered in India ? Even if it costs more in India, I would prefer getting in India iteself for peace of mind given the track record on the quality of the flat panel TVs.

While that is true, warranty covers 12 months only. Damage in the first 12 months is not very likely although anything can happen.

That was my contention too. In Singapore the price difference for say a HX750 is over Rs.22,000 for that kind of a difference I would definitely get it from there.

Besides since the TV would be physically inspected for black spot etc I figured i should be ok. Unfortunately the online stores I checked in Malaysia don't indicate a difference more than Rs.5000 or maybe I am just checking the wrong store.

I 2nd you completely on this. I've got down a lot of tv's & have never had a problem. In fact the only problem I've ever had was with my only tv purchased here, (was in a hurry for my kids room) a 32" Samsung from Vijay Sales.

Besides the difference in prices are pretty tempting on their own. Got down a 46' 750 & 40" 650 from Bkk & trust me they are well worth the trouble of getting them down.

That said, I would advice people to buy the higher end models abroad - those that can be only in the dreams in India due to the high cost. For example, go for HX750 instead of EX650, HX-850 instead of HX-750, Samsung 7 Series instead of 5 or 6, etc.

40" Hx750 is available here for around 70k. 22k is a huge difference, but also consider that you can get extended warranty over here.

Get the hx850 if you can, if you're getting it from abroad :p

Unfortunately I can't seem to find the HX750 in Malaysia. The options are 42W674A or 40EX653.

How about a Samsung F Series? Would you guys recommend it? If so which model?

The Series 6 and the EX650 are supposed to the top-non-3D-dogs.

So theoretically, a F6000 would be comparable to a W650.

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
