5.1 HT setup for under 70k for Living room

Hey friends :) ,
I wanted to buy a 5.1 HT for Movies and Music both . I have included the dimensions of the room below. I have heard that HTIB lack the required sound quality for the price, so I intend to go for separates. I don't have much of an idea about which components are good. Please give your valuable suggestions :)

I would like to opt for 2 floor standing, 1 sub , 1 center and 2 back speakers (I don't know what they are called :p)and a good amp and a BD player(where do i get one without those regional barriers?)

dist TV to sofa : 11.5 ft
dimensions : 10.9 ft x 13.5 ft (as shown)

My main requirement is watching 3D movies(Tv: sony 46" ex720) and
Music : Mainly rock , metal and Indian classical music.

I live in Thane,Mumbai so please suggest some dealers around Mumbai
and places where I get to hear the speakers live in action :D

P.S: In the attatchment
The furniture to the side is wooden cupboard with granite top
while
the one adjacent to the passage is wooden at the top and the bottom whereas the middle are 3 glass shelves.

I would suggest the following speaker system- Paradigm Cinema 100 CT v4- 5.1 System (Sub + Sat)

Along with the Denon 1513 receiver

This will set you back around -- Rs 80,000

ooh not that much....70 is also stretching my budget a bit more. please can you help out within the given budget limit? :)
and i will also have to buy a BD player within that budget+floorstanding speakers are preferable :)

For the room size which you have mentioned, floorstanders will be an overkill. Moreover floorstanders require good breathing space both from the back and the side walls .

In my opinion, quality 5.1 satellite speakers along with an entry level A/V receiver will do the job for a good start. Upgrades can be thought of in the future as and when required.

I am fully enjoying my HT setup which consists of Onkyo TX-SR313 and Wharfedale DX-1 and both should cost you well under 70k.

my 2 cents

i saw the pk52fs . they are huge :P i dont think i will be able to accomodate such huge ones.not because of the full tower but even the centre speaker is quite huge :P
But i saw in many places that a small room gives better surround. now i m confused :P

I think you should look at bookshelves & satalite packages... As much as I love the vfm pioneer 51fs set they are quite large... Even I had issues as to how I will fit it into my 17x30 living room... As u can see in my sig that I went for the deftech procinema 1000+ ... In this price range I would suggest u try deftech 600 with onkyo 414 from avenue sound... This package should just fit into ur 70k budget... Deftechs u can demo at the distributer's demo room in laxmi industrial estate andheri... Onkyo 414 is available at avenue sound @ around 23k... Btw u should difinately visit avenue sound... They have some fantastic vfm packages... There is one polk rm6750 5.1 for 30k that I absolutely love... You can add a entry lvl avr 17-25k & u will be more than happy...

PS if u like the deftechs don't buy from the distributor... He only gives 10% discount on MRP where as dealers like sharper image worli give around 15% discount(I bought from sharper image)...

Ive heard polk audio is not that great for music.... and for me music stands as a higher priority than movies.
and ive decided to go for bookshelves

In that case I feel ur best bet would be pioneer 41bs 5.1 which u can get for around 45k & the rest of the budget going towards a avr maybe yamaha 473... Maybe u could stretch ur budget & fit HK AVR3600 or a yamaha 573 in ur budget... Audition this setup in avenue sound's Vashi showroom... You won't be disappointed...

The 41BS 5.1 already has a pioneer sub in the set so u won't need a separate sub if u go for this package... The Polk one I mentioned also has a decent sub in the package... As far as avr is concerned, the marantz & hk ones are the best I have heard... Problem is the good avrs which I personally liked were HK AVR3600 and the marantz 5007/6006... Avr3600 is 40k & marantz ones are 50-56k... That means these avrs can be used mostly when total budget is 80-100k... I normally put my money where my mouth is so as u will see in my sig I bought a AVR3600 with deftech 1000+ speakers which are amazing quality bookshelves (although they look like satalites)... My second preference would be yamaha/onkyo coz yamaha has very good musical performance while onkyo is amazing in HT... I don't recommend denon at all coz every instance I have demoed it & compared it with other brands it has disappointed me big time... I almost blindly bought the denon 1912 in a group buy last year... Only when I heard it at the cinebels meet in comparision with the marantz & Yamaha avrs I realised what a big mistake I was about to make... Lolz I even carried my AVR3600 to profx to audition Polk speakers & compared it with denon 2312(a 60k plus avr) for the benefit of my non audiophile frnd who had tagged along... We both could feel a night & day diff... Even the manager felt the diff & started blaming my Himedia & my source material(1080p file with HD MA audio)... I simply told him to connect his denon bluray player & choose the bluray which he thought would best show off his system... Even with the denon bluray the same result... After that he just kept quite the rest of the audition :D ... I am not saying that u will definitively like the avrs I hav mentioned over the denon but as almost every FM will recommend to u, audition urself & trust ur own ears... Audio is a longterm investment... So try & audition as many as u can before u decide which sounds best to u... Also buy the avr 1st & carry it with u to audition & match speakers... Only way u can be sure...

PS sonodyne speakers are also supposed to be very good in this range but I haven't found a single place where I can audition them properly... Only place I Have seen them on audition is a croma in malad... Problem is they are placed next to the TVs in the main hall which gives u a fkall exp... & I don't normally recommend anything I can't audition properly... But I have to say sonodyne dipole surrounds sounded amazing even in that fked up setup(mainly coz they were the closest speakers to where we were sitting)...

Whilst i thought its discontinued, couple of days back i saw a few wharfedale moviestar 70+ at the distributors office. Pair it with a yamaha 473 or denon 1713 and u cant go wrong with the combo, both for music as well as movies.

how is this ?
Marantz NR1402 AV Receiver 24500 (hifi mart)(any other place to look for Marantz?)
any other suggestions for an avr upto 25k?(yamaha and onkyo)
Ive kept the bifurcation as 25k(avr)-10k(sub)-30k(speaker set )-10k(player)~ 75k

I did consider the Wharfedale DX-1 HCP...but reviews say that the Sub is under powered.....(im no audiophille)
so will it be worth going for those? or should i go for speaker set and a seperate sub?

BTW can you guys suggest me places where i can check out the speakers
1. Wharfedale
2. polk Audio
3. Boston acoustics
4,5,6...... any more :P
----------
after a lot of thought i have decided to go for the Wharfedale DX-1 HCP+ Marantz NR1402 AV Receiver.
where do i audition these?

Err how did u decide on the DX1 & the 1402??? have u heard either??? 1st Rule of Hifi audio is audition 1st.... You are living in a city where 90% of the brands are available for audition... Dont base ur choices on recommendations of forum members or online review sites... Each person has a unique listening preference along with a lot of limitations(budget, space, look of the speaker, preference of brands etc etc)... So FMs can recommend models & brands but u cant really base ur decision solely on their recommendations... Like if u ask someone like me I will tell u that the HK AVR3600 is the best AVR u can buy for under 40k... Although this might be true for me , it isnt necessarily true for everyone else... Most FMs will recommend the Denon AVRs & on the other hand I myself cant stand the denon avr sound signature... Same is true for speakers... As much as FMs love the Wharfedale speakers I cant seem to like them a lot... Sorry about giving so many hypotheticals but it seemed the only way I could explain my point of view... Anyway as many FMs might know I am a pretty opinionated guy & I kind off like to stick to my opinions, so sometimes I might sound kind of rude or intense... I hope I can be forgiven for that... Anyway I will try to recommend places u can visit to audition diff brands...

1)Avenue Sound(Breach Candy/New Mumbai):- this place is a must visit for anyone looking to buy a VFM setup... They have some unique products that u wont find anywhere else & some amazing prices... I like the owner (Ashish) very much as he seems like a genuine down to earth guy who is very customer oriented.... I think everyone who has met him or dealt with him will attest to that... Models in ur range to really chk out here are Polk RM6750 5.1 set, Pioneer 41BS 5.1, Onkyo ,yamaha, HK & pioneer AVRs...

2) ProFX(Worli):- A Heven for ppl who want a Denon + polk/Kef system... They are official importers for these brands but dont necessarily provide a good audition environment... Their audition space of is literally 6ft by 6ft.... This is a bit of a problem as the system will seem much more powerful than it actually is...

3)Beats 99(Ghatkopar):- A multibrand store with a side by side comparison of many brands...

4) Cinebels (Bandra):- This place has Kilpsh, Jamo, Marantz & Denon... They have a very decent demo room but the problem is the prices are extremely exaggerated... They tend to always state the MRP of a system rather than a decent price u can bargain on... Like tha Marantz 5007 they stated a price of 69k(which is its MRP I guess)... I mean when someone states a price of 69k for a 5007 how much are u gonna bargain on it... 10% 15%??? u have to bargain 20%+ to get a decent price for ur system... They tend to cater & prefer more highend clientile than us who dont really mind the exaggerated prices(we are taking about 5lac + clients)...

5) The Shop(Andheri):- Another Multi brand showroom which I havent got a chance to visit but have heard decent things about them...

6) Sharper Image(Worli):- This shop is more highend & might not be able to cater to ur budget requirements...Mentioned it coz I bought my Procinema 1000+ from them...

7) Violet Sound:- These guys come to ur home & give u a demo of their 5.1 system in ur home... Recently a family friend demoed them in his home on my recommendation... He liked them so much that he bought the system on the spot... I havent asked him how much it cost but I think it is under 65k... This is a wireless system so u are saved the wiring cost(which is about Rs100/mt+ for a decent wire) & the mess created by the wires... The best thing is they demo in ur home so u know exactly how the system will sound in ur home & dont get any unwanted surprises...

There are loads & loads more places u can demo which I think other FMs will be able to point out to u... Take a little bit of time & audition all u can in ur budget...

BTW u mentioned 10k for a player(I am assuming bluray player)... do u rent or purchase a lot of blurays??? wont a media player be a better bet for a VFM buyer(easily available for 4-8k)... I personally feel for a low budget customer HD DTH & a media player are a more apt investment... Just my personal point of view...

Lastly srry for the long post...

OK so i went to avenue sounds (sea woods) and pro fix(atria, worli) .
At avenue, there were 2 systems
1) pioneer 41bs+ pioneer avr (47k+25k=72k)
2)hk3600 avr with mono price as8247 (45k+22k=67k)
to be honest , the pioneer system was okayish for the movies and music
then i asked for the demo of the HK+ mono price and found it better in the movie section. but the music on it completely blew my mind. i decided on the avr then and there itself.
today i went to profx. they only had denon + Polk satellite set up as mentioned by rajdeep earlier. so i asked for a demo. though the system was louder , it again gave me a similar effect of the pioneers.

so , bottom line i have decided to go for the HK+ mono price.
but then on eBay avenue sound is selling the mono price for 18k whereas he is quoting Me 22k.Similarly the hk he's selling for 45k. @rajdeep i would
like to know where you got it for 40k
