No Plasma panles of 55 inch available in India.. so your choice restricted to LEDs only ..

Sony 55HX750.. will be my first choice (price 1.4-1.5 lacs)
Pana 55ET5D .. will follow.. (around 1.3-1.4 lacs)

There are few Samy models as well ...

There are few biggies from Sharp as well. Not sure about availability. But there was 60" at 1.5L with good PQ.

Could not find any Sharp plasma on the website.
Would prefer Samsung only as budget is not a concern
Just sent a PM to a member who owns this

I want to know if investing in a plasma is a good decision in the long run
I've heard a lot about their reliability issues.
Do the high power consumption and heat production issues still exist in modern plasma tvs??

Will this tv last me 5 years atleast without a problem??

Sharp 60" is a Full HD led, and not a new generation TV with 3D etc. It is available with a huge mark down price of 1.5 lacs. If you are Okay with a regular TV with full HD, you can have a look at it.. I found the picture not that crisp (Reliance Digital Vashi has one as demo in the HT demo room) ..

Looking for a plasma only cos I need the deep blacks.
I;m almost decided on the 64E8000 just need some final advice regarding plasmas...

with 17ft you need a min of 60inches for sure!!! suggest to go with plasma....they are the real kings in large screen tv's. Stick with Panasonic or Samsung.............if possible have a demo and decide, depending on budget you can go with either one.

Plasma is excellent in having deep black levels even at the pixel level. From that aspect, it is great. Having said that Plasma offers the best PQ, there are some precautions that one has to take with Plasma. Theere are several threads or articles within and outside the form highlighting the pros/cons of Plasma. It would be better if you go through those articles on your own.

Since you have already mentioned about some of the problems of Plasma, let me list here as well. These problems are reduced with newer plasma panels, but not completely eradicated.

1. Power consumption very high compared to LED (around 300 watts to 400 watts for your screen size).
2. Not as bright as LED. So viewing in darker rooms, Plasma will be at the best in dark rooms for watching movies/
3. Image retention - There is already thread on this. this problem is not completely eradicated, but the probability is reduced. So you need to take few precautions like avoiding watching channels with station logos for a longer time and avoid watching static images for a longer time.

If you want an uncompromising PQ and if you are ready to take care of IR (there is a thread in this forum on guidelines to avoid IR), you will be be thrilled with the PQ of plasma.

There is an alternative in buying HX850 (LED) and Pana 65ST50 (Plasma). HX850 is the best LED TV and Pana 65ST50 is rately very highly by experts.

If you want the best, then try between these models.
1. 64E8000 (value for money and good black levels)
2. HX850 (slightly costlier, has good black levels and the best in LED)
3. 65ST50 (excellent black levels, not sure about the availaibility)

If you have any confusion, I can tell you that you won't regret buying any of the above models.

I have seen the 64E8000 .. and it is amazingly bright considering that it is a Plasma.. almost as bright as LEDs... 51E8000 is almost out of the shelves, is the most sought after the huge price cut.. somehow, Samy decided not to have a similar price cut for the 64e8000.. else it would have been closer to 1.5 lacs (your original budget).. Regarding the plasma issues and reliability etc .. there are already enough posts already in the board.. do browse for them..

Coming to the reliability issue, Plasma is good. In fact, manufacturers of both Plasma and LED claim the panel life to be 1 lakh hours. Also, Plasma flat screen TVs are there for more than a decade and so nothing to worry from the perspective. The only thing I always insist for any flat panel is going for extended warranty. If you get that, nothing to worry.

Considering that 2013 models are on the radar.. you negotiate with him for 1.6- 1.7 lacs for only the TV (minus the HT, unless you want it badly).. I think he will budge for 1.75 or so

Local dealer offering 1.95 lac with a Samsung home theater worth 17K

I had seen this model in the showroom and I was really impressed with PQ. Just go for a demo and decide. You should be able to get it for much lesser price. I just checked the Samsung online store, and official price is 1.99L. You should be able to negotiate it for around 1.7 easily.

I am getting it for 1.8lac with home theater and 4 3D glasses.
Is it a good deal for this tv??
How is it compared to the Panasonic Gt50???
