Guys

Can you help me understand the difference and the best setting i should use on my Plasma TV and tata sky HD.

I understand the native resolution of my plasma tv is 768p i.e 1366X768

Whereas i have multiple options on my tata sky HD which is 720p and 1080i.

Given my TV resolution which source feed should I use 720p or 1080i for best results.

Even though the resolution of TV is 1366x768, the TV is still 720p.

You should feed the TV with 1080i resolution and let the TV do the downward conversion. The STB may not be good enough in this aspect.

1080i is an interlaced resolution. I'd recommend 720p, that's closer to your TVs native resolution and it is progressive. In my experience 720p looks better than 1080i anyway.

just saw just4kix response now, if the signal is actually 1080i its probably best to let your TV do the conversion like he said. But I'm confused about how it provides the 1080i vs 720p choice.

Every video device processes signals differently............there is only one way to find out, try both and see which one looks better.

Why do I feel that both would look almost similar when viewed at around 6-8 ft?

Theoretically, why do you want the signal to be downscaled by the TV or the STB - if the STB is providing 720p, stick to it if the TV is capable of 720p.

I agree there is no visible difference except that the image does not cover the full screen as in 1080i i wonder why

Stick to the original source resolution (skip any processing in the STB) and TV will scale in its own way, not to 720p, it will always be 1366x768
