A question for online UPS users

gr8.. can you also tell me the make and model and how much did you buy it for.. I might have to make it my priority now but mines a Yamaha Ax-2000.. so what do you think should I go for any suggestions ??

I am using Supra HDL1200 LI UPS with a 40AH battery. It has AVR from 130-270. The output is quasi sinewave when in UPS mode. This UPS gives me 45 minutes of backup with AVR, subwoofer and TV running simultaneously.

Hi
your signature says you use a servo as well. How does this work? as in is the ups connected to the servo or are they not connected at all and used for different components.

Ups is connected to servo out. I have added a two pole switch before servo so that mains can be bypassed to ups if servo is not needed. Ups cost was 11.5k.

Is the requirement of a UPS in KVA terms meaured by the input wattage or the output wattage of a system? Why I ask is because the output of my Onkyo HTS3500 is 660 W. Add 200 W for my projector and it becomes 860W. Apparently for 800+ Wattage i need atleast a 2 KVA system...found out from APC, Microtek and Uniline but all of them are quoting around INR 25k for a 2 KV UPS.

Doesnt sound quite right..so figured it may be the input wattage on which the KV can be calculated.

Let me know what everyone thinks.

The KVA of UPS refers to the output power. A 2KVA UPS can roughly handle a load of 1200W. For your use even a 1.5KVA is enough. The 600W of Onkyo 3500 is misleading. It will not consume that much power. FYI, I'm running Denon1612+Panasonic 26"TV+ AMD A6 HTPC+ Magnat 100W subwoofer using a 1.2KVA UPS and it handles the load easily on battery mode. With the 40Ah battery it will run for around half an hour.

Hi
I wanted a UPS to run my TW3600 Epson projector, Denon1912 AVR and LG BDP 660 only till the switchover time of the gen set . Approx 3 mts.
Which UPS and what capacity do u think is enough. Is 1.5 KV enough

A 1.5KV ups can roughly handle 900W. What is the total power consumption of your devices? IMO, you can use a 1.5KVA UPS and you don't need expensive ones with bigger batteries if you need only 3 minute backup. Look for APC model. Sinewave UPS is recommended.

Hi
My denon is 480W, projector 380W, so would APC ES 700 Va suffice or should i go for something bigger

IMO, the power drawn by the equipment is usually much less than the max rated power. I run a whole bunch of gear on an APC 2 KVA, and the only thing I need to do is switch on the Amp & the Sub (both have high startup load) one after the other, else it overloads the UPS.

I also leave the input to UPS always on, switch off the output only if I'm gone be out for more than 2-3 days.

Noise: this is def an issue. With a sound level meter, I see that the UPS adds about 6 dB to my room, and though it's not a problem while watching movies, it's def pissing me off when I listen to music, so I am also planning on shifting it to another room, if I can just work out how to control it from the main room. The Control Panel attaches with a LAN type connector, but I don't know how long one can make it. Anybody?

IMO, 700VA is not enough for your setup. Go for atleast 1KV or higher. As viki pointed out, the ups sound is irritating. With two built in fans, my ups produces very high noise. I'm planning to put it in another room.

How about 2 UPs`s of 700 KV each for the projector and Amp + BDP. That works out cheaper also and takes care of the noise bit
