Last Sunday, I was fortunate to host Sri. Padmanabha Varma, son of present Maharaja of Travacore. He is a collector of rare Gramaphones, Radios, Radiograms and records. He was told by someone who saw News on Jeevan TV about me and managed to get my contact number and expressed his interest in visiting me. I am overwhelmed by His gesture to spend a day with me. He is highly knowlegeable in matters relating to vintage Turntables and vintage records. when I showed him a record of Beatles and Frank Ifield on VJ records, he immediately told me it's a very rare album. His favorites are Nina & Fredricks,The Kingston Trio, Peter Paul & Mary and Santana! He also likes Harry Belafonte, Nat King Cole and many others. He may be also buying the Siemens Radiogram . I will post a picture taken with him.

Jacob,

With all due respect to the Prince (Sri Varma), you are looking classier by a mile in the picture.

Regards.

The Travancore Royals are a class act - very well cultured in the arts.
Great to see that Sri. Padmanabha Varma is a vintage audio aficianado.

The Travancore Royal family is truly majestic. Also lovely to note that someone in Trivandrum actually does this. For those who are not familiar with the Travancore Royal family, they were one of India's most forward Royals who quickly hatched on to the benefits to be accrued from the Western World, in relation to education, medicine, infrastructure, etc.

They always had a taste for the better things in life, especially American cars. My grandfather used to be the chief engineer of stanes motors and worked solely with the royals on servicing their car collection and procuring new cars for them. I've heard stories about this from my Dad.

Dear sir,

It was indeed a very nice gesture on the part of Sri Padmanabha Varma to pay a visit to your vinyl bungalow. This only shows his generosity.I am happy to hear that he is a collector of vintage and classic audio equipment.Off the topic:When I think of Travancore Royal Family I am reminded of Maharaja Swathi Thirunal who is well versed in Carnatic music.

Thanking you,

pksnathan

I am reminded of Maharaja Swathi Thirunal who is well versed in Carnatic music.
That is an understatement: he was one of the greatest composers of carnatic music! :)

Please also be reminded of Prince Rama Varma, who is carrying the flag as a present-day carnatic musician of high repute. I don't know if his musical tastes extend to Peter, Paul and Mary or Santana, but they do extend far beyond the horizons of carnatic.

Awesome! A Royal Collection deserves a Royalty visit. On a return visit, if you get a chance, let us know of the Royal's collection. With all the music in the royal heritage wonder how music sounds in his listening room....my flights of fancy.....

Hello KJ Sir,

Congratulations!!!

Last time when me and Santhol bought LP's from Avenue road Bangalore. Balaji, the owner of that shop was mentioning selling some LP's to Sri. Padmanapha Varma.

Thanks
Venu

Mr KJ You are really previleged with a Royal visit. It is really honour to you to and to all of our fellow hfv members. Thanks for sharing the news and the photos. Royal salute to the Humble Royal.

Congratulations! What stands out to me always is the humility of the members of the Royal Family of Travancore.

This is a sort of recognition of your efforts and passion cultivated over the years.

I just want to thank all of you for your response to this post. I just wanted to mention that Sri. Padmanabha Varma is a very humble person and really passionate about Vintage audio systems . Has radios of 1930s and 40's in immaculate condition and many rare Records of 1920 to 1970's. I will post more about his collection after I visit him..

Dear sir.

I agree with you.

Thanking you,
