Very nice experience for you Mr. Kuruvila.

In general the royal families in India were one of the main promoters of Indian Classical Music.

I think most of the Christian-based and Anglo Indian schools exposed their students to a huge collection of Western Music, back in the day (especially in the 1960s and 1970s). Back here in Trivandrum, I studied in Loyola School (run by Jesuit Priests) and they had a huge collection of western music LPs. I still remember on the last day of school before the Christmas vacation, music used to be played across the campus for most part of the day, Jim Reeves Christmas LP would be played atleast 4 or 5 times, followed by Andy Williams, Frank Sinatra, etc. During lunch breaks we used to listen to some lovely records on the PA system. I will never forget those days. Even though we were through LP staple, at home over the weekends, standing outside the vice principal's room and watching the seniors playing LPs on an old radio gram was a fascinating site and one of the lasting memories I have of my school. I have managed to accquire most of those titles we had in our school collection. Wonder what happened to the actual collection, guess it was moved to some jesuit home :)

Now that stuff drives us crazy in supermarkets. The only time of year I dislike shopping.

I had along chat with Sri Padmanabha Varma regarding his music interests. He has most recording of Carnatic classical music of Past Masters from 1920 on records and some after 1957 on Tapes . He is a keen listener of such music and Forum members should not have an impression that he is completely bowled over by western music though western classical music are to his taste.

I don't mind what his tastes are, it is his right --- but I'm not at all surprised to find, from what has been said, that they range far.

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
