Hello experts,

Just want to know generic feedback about Yamaha floor standers. While going though enormous number of posts, I found most famous combination of AVR + Speaker is Denon and Wharfedale. Also Jamo, Sono, Polk are quite famous, but could not find much details about Yamaha speakers. Are they not available easily in India? (though their India site has a number of speakers listed.) Or, they are not up to audiophile grade compared to others?

I am planning for a step by step 5.1 HT spreading next 1 year. Starting with AVR Denon 1513 or equivalent and pair of floor standers (and a Sub may be?!?) with a initial budget of (within)50K. and then others as and when possible. At this moment my Source is PS3, Ipod and D2H HD, Mostly for Movie/TV, also some music (70:30).

Though I will start taking audition, but would like to get some suggestions too (for both AVR and Floorstanders).

Thanks,
Dipayan

Ok, not much information on Yamaha speakers here and online. Little different question,

I have decided to go for Yamaha rx v373 instead of Denon 1513. For speaker as I told I would go for FS, I have 2 in mind, sonodyne ginie 3 and Yamaha Ns f 150. Question is where can I get demo of Yamaha speakers in Bangalore? And for sonodyne? 2nd question, which brand is good for quality (as in craftmenship, material used, reliability etc) and service?

From online stores both FS costs around 20k. Any other suggestions WITHIN that range? And where can I audition them?

thanks,
Dipayan

ok, I have started auditioning now, started with Yamaha v371 with Yamaha NS F140 (thts the only option Reliance digital has), sound is just ok, comparable with other budget HTIB, nothing to talk about, so giving it a pass. Would like to audition NS F150 though and got a quote from HTStore of 20K exact. Thought of getting better deal. Would audition sonodyne soon.
Can anyone suggest some stores (apart from HTStore.in in Jayanagar) in Bangalore where I can get audition AVR(yamaha/denon/onkyo) and FS, different combinations, I am just looking for store options. Following are in my mind, Pro FX in MG road, Sonodyne in Lalbagh road(??) and Thomsung Music House in Indiranagar and Onkyo in MG road. Any other local dealer(not brand stores)?

Thanks,
Dipayan

Low priced yamaha speakers are just Ok , in fact below average IMHO - that is why you see Yamaha AVRs are parnered with many other speakers. Ditto case with Denon & Onkyo. Also nI found lowest priced Jamo floorstaders pathetic. There is huge price & sound quality difference in different Jamo series

Well it was a total u turn for my decision, I was auditioning sonodyne with Yamaha v473, it was ok, my pref genie was not as impressive as sonous 2605. Then took audition with onkyo and finally went to ProFx, auditioned Denon 1513 and 1713 with Kef and Polk audio Tsi 400 (both without a sub) ... I liked the movie performance of Polk, but Kef was clear winner for music IMO. then again took a audition with 1713, Tsi 400 (Kef was out as it was out of my budget) and Psw110, with 2 - 3 movie clip and 45 min of time, it was awesome to me, with a sub the music was really good to my taste... gave no second thought and finalised and booked, got a good deal from them on speakers, on AVR it could be better but it was competitive, also got required chord speaker cables from them in the package, and got delivery in next 2 hours. Will soon set it up... Will post the performance at home soon :)

Congrats. I'm considering the same setup (assuming I get a smaller screen for the PJ and manage to fit the FS in the limited space) but with the psw 125 sub and denon 1612 instead. How much did you pay for it? Keep us updated about your impressions of the new goodies :)

Well, frankly, I got sort of additional discount on total discounted price. So it would be dificult to tell you the breakup, but if you go there directly they give 12% flat discount, so 1713 comes around 32000 in ProFX Bangalore. Same for speakers, you get 12% flat and all comes with 3 years warranty. Then, I guess, its your skill and luck to see if you can bargain more.

PSW125 was little out from my total budget and having a 12x14x11 living room, I thought 110 would be enough (being a flat dweller, I guess, it would be more or less same size for next decade :) ). But with 110 and Tsi 400, it is good for movie, for music, I found nice mid, decent bass but it lacks little in highs, Kef was better in music performance to me. Well ofcourse, you increase your budget you get better quality. Heard some high end yamaha speakers with 473 it was awesome, but only the floorstanders were same as my total budget  . Never auditioned a BS, so cannot say how good or bad they would be for movies, but many review says they are really good for music. Will try to post detailed review of my setup soon.

Instead of RXV 371 go for Yamaha Receiver RXV 375 which is the award winning receiver in that category in 2013.

Thanks.. I became irregular in this forum for some time now. Should have posted this before. However here is a brief about the setup:

I am fully satisfied with the performance, specially for movies. Bass is deep and has a rumbling effect for a room size of 14'x12'. Voice is clear enough without a center. I use it as 2.1 and sources are D2H(SD), Amkette EvoTv MC for streams, PS3 for Blurays/DVDs.

For music I use airplay from my iPad mini and sometimes directly from USB. To get better performance use high quality lossless or at least Mp3 with 320kbps. I find iTune Stores AAC is also sounds good. It plays FLAC, but could not test with original FLAC releases. Sure that music performance would be better from a Audio CD. As I already mentioned, Good bass, good mid, but little low on highs in some cases.

Denon 1713 is sufficient for 4 input device and a decent 5.1 system. USB and AUX HDMI in front is really useful. Airplay feature that I use most for music. But it has bug in airplay. In case you pause a song and wait for a bit, then try to play a new song, iPad fails to connect to the AVR.

Planning for a Polk TSi CS10 soon for better vocals. Satellites have to wait :)
