Renjith, is the connectivity consistent?

I am more worried about breakdown service capability of ACT. I use BSNL that hardly every breaks down, though I get only 2 Mbps. But it is reliable in terms of connectivity. In the four odd years that I have used BSNL, it has been down maybe 4 times. That is a good MTBF.

Thanks

Venkat,

I stay in an apartment and they have a dedicated guy for maintaining it and they gave one week demo connection for testing. Till now there was no breakdown issue and whenever I check using speed test it shows 17Mbps speed. ( I opted for 15Mbps connection) .

I was frustrated with BSNL call center.

Yes Hemanth. I am trying to come back to HifiVision slowly. Am able to spend about 30 minutes a day now. Will increase my participation slowly.

Thank you for the welcome. It is good to be back among friends.

Fup is way too low for a 25 mbps connection

I hardly download any movies or music. I have gone back to buying DVDs and Blu-rays instead of storing them on hard disk. My hunger for hard disk was becoming ridiculous and I decided having optical disks is better for now.

In terms of music, I already have all the music I can listen to till I die.

Personally, I need the speed for just surfing. My wife watches a few YouTube videos. A FUP of 60GB maybe enough for me. They also have a 200GB FUP for Rs. 3249, but that is expensive for me right now. Wont be using that much.

Thanks

Venkat

PS, the FUP is Chennai is actually 75GB for 1299. That seems a fair deal.

I thought you are buying such a high speed connection for netflix or something similar

For such purpose 60 gb is peanuts

Hi Venkat,
Thanks for showing interest in ACT Broadband. Kindly let us know if we can help you in any way.

I am already in touch with one Mr. Mani from your Chennai office. I have asked him to give me a demo in Besant Nagar (where I live) so that I can decide. He has kind of disappeared over the last few days. :)

Thanks

Venkat

Venkat,

ACT has been operating in Hyderabad as Beam for several years now. I've been using their services for the past 3 years and have been very happy. I've been using their 15 Mbps package for some time now and earlier this year they upgraded me to 30 Mbps for no additional cost. Their speed will positively smoke anything you've been getting from BSNL etc.

I was so happy with their services that I changed by office leased line service to them earlier this year.

I wish I could say all is rosy and well but for the last 3-4 months I have not been able to get their tech support to solve a router issue at my home. The internet connection is great when connected directly. When I use it via the router their server drops the connection or vice versa. No matter what I try - they have not been able to help me.

However this is not for lack of effort. They have a very good call centre service which will log your service calls with sms sent for confirmations etc. Their staff are by and large fairly adept at fixing most issues. Much better than any other service out there for the money. In Hyderabad at least there is no other company offering this much bandwidth. I used to also have an Airtel Broadband connection which offered only 2 Mbps for the same cost I am paying Beam for 30 Mbps!

Highly recommended from my end simply based on the speed.
Nobody comes close!

Thanks Nikhil. I have got ACT installed about 4 weeks ago. Excepting for their installation people messing around my house (they have installed a 16 point junction box in my house), it has been working like a charm.

I installed a TP-Link 4300, a 750 mbps dual band router. It connected the first shot without any issue and I am full five bars all over the house. I have to find a permanent place for the router.

I have been getting between 25 mbps and 30 mbps all the time. I am quite happy with ACT. Let us hope it continues to work well.

Nikhil someone told me that the router that they give is the one that will work. Just ask them to bring a demo router and see if it works. I bought the TP-Link with apprehension, but it worked well.

Cheers

I've been suspecting that for a while now but I hope that's not true. I have a Cisco router which worked for the past couple of years. Looks like they've changed something since October after which I've been having major issues.

ACT Broadband

Hi,

If you are actually from Act Broadband, I have a request: I am from south Chennai, staying near Okkiyam Thoraipakkam and ACT hasn't expanded towards this area on OMR. I am eagerly waiting for ACT to start services in my area as I am struggling to find good internet connectivity. Please please please speed up your expansion in south Chennai This whole stretch on OMR till Sholinganallur (and beyond) is full of IT people and I am sure loads of people are eagerly waiting for ACT.

Curiously, it has twice happened to me in the past that ACT / BEAM has come up in the areas that I have just moved out of (happened in Bangalore and Hyderabad  )

Regards,
Uday

I have been using ACT broadband for the last 2 odd months, and I have been getting 25Mbps or more consistently. A few days ago, I set the speed limit in UTorrent to 0, and downloaded a 1.2 GB file in less than 5 minutes.

I do hope they continue to give this speed always. Very happy with the connection.

You know, the strange part is that you get used to such speeds so quickly that you find BSNL and other passe.

Cheers
