ACT High Speed Connection

Update: I have recently switched to their new 100 Mbps plan.

Speed is pretty good and FUP limit is now 200GB per month
Anyone who uses media streaming extensively should consider them.

The wifi router seems to be pretty bad in reducing the speed, while via lan port I could get close to the plan that I am in ( 60Mbps), via wi-fi it sometimes reduces substantially , down to say 15 Mbps.

any one experienced it and any suggestion to make wifi router work better ?

I use Netgear AC 750 model which is sufficiently capable per the ACT guys.

To whosoever it may concern :D

Act Fiber is the best among all the services i ever used.
I've been using this service from past 6 Years. Never faced even a single disconnection, if at all there is a disconnection they will send a SMS 24 hrs before, alerting us about the dis-connectivity. A single complaint and the service engineer will be available within 2 or 3 hrs to address the issue at our place.
I have used every damn internet service provider in Hyderabad from the year 2001.
Started with Sify and others and some local providers. Then came BSNL and then Airtel, Reliance and the list goes on.....

Believe me, Act Fiber(Previously called as Beam Fiber) has revolutionized with their packages, charges and service in the Internet Service Providers history in India.

I hope and am sure that they will continue to provide forever :)

Good Luck to them.

Cheers,
Aditya

Looks like Mumbaikars have to live with slow speed internet for some time more. Speed in Mumbai (All ISPs without exception) is pathetic.

Upto what speeds / plans do you have available in Mumbai?
Just curious as I would like to use data / wifi at our place in Bandra (West).
Is Vodafone the best provider available or do we have other options?

I have used Vodafone USB dongle which rarely clocked 5 MBPS. Tata Photon Max, though claim "UP TO" 9 MBPS, I never got more than 2 MBPS only sometimes, generally less than 1 MBPS.

It's been a year since I last checked and the coverage list is still same. Are they doing anything at all to expand along OMR? I live in Thoraipakkam.

I use Hathway in Mumbai, via Cable Modem at my office .... 50 MBps.

Also Airtel at Home ... ADSL 8 MBps

Unlike my earlier ADSL connection from Airtel which would work even when there was a blackout in my area, ACT doesn't work when power is down. I think their nearest node doesn't have back up power, so I have to switch to my mobile data service. Anyone else have this issue?

@GeorgeO - The node is supposed to have at-least 4 hours of power backup, if it is not working then you can file a complain with Act customer care and they should be able to fix this!

Sorry for this tardy reply. I have not tracked this thread.

1. Yes, I get consistent 8MBps speeds from Airtel at my residence at Cuffe Parade. It is a ADSL ( not fibre) connection.

2. Yes I also get consistent 50 MBps speeds of 50 MBps from Hathway at my office in Churchgate. It is a DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem service.

Here in Hyderabad the ACT node is in my building and has a battery backup of about an hour.
We've had very good power supply more or less with power outages not exceeding 45 mins barring major breakdowns.

Earlier last year I was tempted to put the node on my UPS - hopefully I don't need to do that anytime soon.
Have been a very happy user for some time now.

I also have Hathway 50Mbps here at Ghaziabad, and I get speeds between 40-50Mbps which is perfectly fine. With this kind of speed I have stopped downloading lots of stuff, and instead just stream directly from various internet sources. Officially like Netflix and Hulu, unofficially like popcorn time. My Roku 3 is like God send in this scenario. With speed like this Roku 3 is like holy grail of entertainment ...
