I have a BSNL ADSL connection and have been using the wireless modem router given by BSNL for some years. I think the modem has come to the end of it's life as it often goes blank and resets itself. Please suggest a good wireless modem router with some decent wifi range.

Modems work without any problems for decades!

Check your power supply may be there is break or voltage surge.

Have you tried firmware upgrade if its available on line?

I have it connected to another modem without wireless option and this one works without any problem. I have not done any firmware update maybe I shall try that. The newer modems which are available now do they make any difference in speed than the one I am using now provided by BSNL?

Tried to update the firmware but got message that the current firmware is the latest one. Still facing the same problem as the wireless modem/router resets itself often. I'm not sure which ADSL wireless modem/router to buy in case I decide to buy a new one. Seems like there are too many choices. I need a wireless modem router which has decent speed. Presently I have 4mbps BSNL unlimited connection. Please suggest a good ADSL wireless modem router.

^^ Replace the power adapter and try before you purchase a new one ....

Test the modem with another connection. Recently bsnl broadband is having serious connection issues. It has stabilized now to some extent though.

+1 to that. I have been using an airtel modem for the past 9 years or so. When I started having similiar issues (frequent restarts), I also thought that the modem was to blame. However, on further diagnosis, I found out that the cheap power adapter was mis-behaving, and ended up changing the power adapter. Everything started working fine after that!

Even my modem is giving problems. It resets but the power doesn't go off. Does this mean that the power supply is good?

Difficult to say. When I started having problems, the symptoms were similiar, ie. the modem would reset once in a while even though the modem was getting power from the adapter. Since I had another wi-fi modem with me, I used it's power adapter with the modem giving problems, and it worked fine. I replaced the faulty power adapter and it's been working fine since.

Suggest that you borrow an adapter of similiar capacity and check with your modem. Chances are that the power adapter could be faulty (especially as they age...)

Does this happen with BSNL connection? I tried my modem with another BSNL connection and the same happened.

Yes, I have a BSNL landline with broadband connectivity.

Yes. It is the power adapter that gave this problem. Just replaced it and it is working good. Thanks for all who suggested to replace the power adapter. It really helped. BTW I have been using this wireless modem supplied by BSNL for six to seven years. If I replace the modem with new one would that give me more speed or is internet speed something to do with the ISP?

Well the modem has started to reset again. I think I need to change the modem now as I checked with another connection and the same happens. If I should buy a modem should I buy a new one or a used one. If buying a new modem does it really help in internet speed?
