Frnds, I don't want to commit my earlier mistake by walking in showroom and picking up the wrong TV for me (talking abt 32lk450- bad viewing angles).

now I need 1 more TV for my bedroom and I will be purchasing it withing 4-5 days, will request you to kindly pour in your advice, I had the following models in my mind:

Toshiba PS20 led
Toshiba PB20 lcd

Samsung 43e490 ( was not impressed due to dull picture quality and reflection)

I had also auditioned a philips LED TV 42PFL??? for abt 49k at reliance digital and was very much impressed by its picture quality.

Please help

I have Toshiba PB20 LCD. I must say I am pretty happy with the purchase. Got it at 36400/- online and to me its been worth much more than that.

PQ has been impressive in both SD and HD with Airtel HD STB. Infact for some of the good quality SD channels like StarPlus, TimesNow, I dont even feel need of going for HD. Sound quality is decent. Have a optical out which I am using.

I would recommend it. If you were in Bangalore, i could have offered a extended demo ;)

While I was looking for LCD, I have also seen Philips 42 Inch LCD 5506 (i think). PQ of that model was also very good and was coming at 39K at reliance digital. I went for Toshiba as its a more stable brand (Philips TV unit been sold), atleast in its home turf.

well yeah !! i agree with you... toshiba pb 20 does offer a great value for money had auditioned it and was really impressed, in fact I am also looking forward to it, but still waiting for some suggestions from the experts

cybersam,
Since you are looking out for TV in bedroom, I am not sure how much is viewing angle important because you are more likely to be watching the TV from your bed. One of my friend used ceiling mount for the TV such a way that he can watch TV from bed or from a small couch next to his bed. There is a wardrobe and a door because of which TV cannot be placed on TV stand.
In general bedrooms are not big enough that there are many choices for placing the TV. I agree that viewing angle is important but I would rather suggest you to buy a TV based on how you plan to use it rather than viewing angle. Simply put, you are less likely to watch TV from an angle in bedroom, imo.

I recently wrote a review on the TV I purchased, The following is the link which might be helpful:

Here is my understanding and suggestion:
1. There is always good, better, best under the sun. Most TVs are 80% same and what makes them different is 20%. When I auditioned TVs LG scored better as it had decent refresh rate. But it was a 3D TV and I not looking for that feature. Hence fix your requirement and budget. For example, 3D TV for 75K
2. Choose the size of the TV based on the viewing distance. Say 40" is required if you are going to watch at a distance of 10 feet.
3. Dealer get more margin by selling a Samsung TV. Dealers are more likely to oversell these TVs. I hear the samsung service is not up to mark and hence do your survey before buying these.
4. audition TV as the way you are going to use. Eye level, distance and viewing angle etc. Since you are gona park some 50l-60k for TV, it is important that your eyes and ears like it.
5. audition 2-3 TVs simultaneously by playing the same content. You are more likely see difference in quality.

If you have any specific question we will be glad to help you.

thanks ravi.. for your nice illustration , i will like to add in the followings like :

- viewing distance will be 10 ft, so i think 40 inch will be fine.
- i have shortlisted toshiba pb 20 or ps20 led. (still any better options will be accepted).
- samsung has service issues plus there panel lottery systems ( i have been a victim earlier- 5 dead pixels in just 10 days though managed to get it replaced for a refund after a month long tussle).
- was eagerly waiting for samsung 43e490, but was really disappointed after taking a demo, pictures look dull, sd performance was not good and the reflections are bad.

Whr did u get 32500/- pricing dude? i lost 4K in juz one month... cant believe this crazy crashing prices of electronics :(

I think you can't go by what you see in showroom, coz there are various picture settings you can tune up to get the desired quality.. and at the signal processing chip level, I feel samsung is no lesser than sony (if not better). (sony is u know, i won't say more)

If you are talking about the series 8 LED-lcd vs the HX925,then its no brainer if you want picture quality stick with the HX925,if you want the smart tv features then get the samsung series 8 LED-LCD.

hello all. I am looking for an 46 inch LCD TV and Toshiba pb 20 got my attention. how good is it ? has anyone tried using it with PC ? how is the sound?
please reply soon.

for 46 or more you should take panasonic plasma 42 inch semi hd/full hd@46k or samsung plasma semi hd 42 inch.a very good budget performer.
both are under 40k.

also 50 inch semi hd plasma from panasonic within 55k is a good aoption.
for pricey product either sony HX series or panasonic ST/GT series plasmas....above 95k and more

for movie like picture quality nothing beats plasma.just watch a movie in a good multiplex 1st show,,,then hunt from TV in showrooms and experiment side by side.
and try to re capture the picture quality.the TV comes most close to the picture in your brain.....wins.
simple.
carry your high quality files.

other models than sony HX/pana plasmas are just full of gimmick and marketing.go and experiment yourself with original blue ray disk or very high quality files.

dear sir, I'm not into half HD panels as I'd like to attatch the panel to my PC via hdmi for gaming and such. kindly suggest full HD panels in that budget. also ,by any means do you think the Toshiba panel will be bad? yeah it's not an ips panel like LG and such but then the price point shoots up. also Toshiba is offering 46 inch panel for the price of 40 and 42 from big brands. thanks for the assist.

are you sure you will everytime play true 1980*1080 contents:D:D
and I suggested plasma panels as under 50k any led or lcd picture qulaity will cry even in front of semi hd samsung plasma ......
yes if you dont mind seeing artificial color and crappy skin tone, and a bad viewing angle problem, motion artifacts(as you will play true hd games as you said).......and only mind the pixel numbers........go ahead with your chioce.
this 40k toshiba model...
dont decide anything before experiment.thats the bottomline...

plasmas are sinking ship I'm afraid. the problem with high power and life aside , they are loosing on the resolution front. most plasmas have some odd resolution like 1024x 600......and that's for a 50 inch set. ... my Samsung note (I'm using to write this ) has a 1280x 800 screen for 5.3 inch ...... makes me think .................:-):(:-) ???

let alone games, full HD shall allow me to have better txt and navigation around windows. I have an 19 inch half HD screen. .... and thats the largest screen any sane eyes will tolerate at half HD. ..:(

I very much question your judgment although I respect your preferences.

Entry level plasmas are 1024x768 while mid and high end plasmas are 1920x1080. At a distance of 8' or above (the most common viewing distance), you will find no difference between 720p and 1080p. This is because the (most) human eyes cannot detect fine pixels at such distances. It is meaningless to compare this with a monitor/display of close-to-the-eye devices such as mobile phones, tablet, laptop, desktop, etc. We hold them as close as 10" and at this distances the difference between resolution is very apparent.

Plasma panels consume higher power but the overall bill is not going to be more than Rs. 100 extra per month. This added cost offsets the extra cost that LED TVs charge in the long term. Quite similar to buying a Diesel engine car because it yields better fuel economy.

Finally PDP has a half life of 100,000 hours which means that it will be 34 years at 8 hours x 365 days of watching - and after that the plasma panel will be half as bright. Both plasma and LED panels will be outdated and sink after OLED becomes the mainstream in about 4 years (if not less).

But if you wish to buy LED and the best resolution, PQ, black level and other such factors are of extreme importance, then Sony HX925 should be your choice. But it is very expensive and available in 55"+ only. If that is beyond your budget, then go with HX850 that is available in 40" and 46" sizes.
