Airtel HD set top box

Hello All,

I have a normal Airtel SETOP BOX with SD, when I connect to Sony LCD.
Picture clarity is not good. I am planning to upgrade to HD setop box with HDMI cable.

Will this improve SD channels craity( Picture and Sound)?
what about Airtel HD box ( Picture and Sound) clarity?

Your SD channels will look and sound the same- No change
Your HD channels will look fantastic --and will have excellent sound

Now if you want to get Home Theater Sound -- suggest an external receiver with 5.1 speakers

I'm having Airtel HD box and the SD quality is average but Videocon SD quality is really good comparing to Airtel and Tatasky.

Why Videocon have better SD quality even they do not use latest codec for SD?
Airtel & Reliance uses MPEG4 and DVB-S2 for both SD and HD channels.

Have you seen the difference yourself? Any specific channel you know so that we can compare.

It depends on compression even all are using same codec.

I read that some where on Dreamdth forum that Videocon d2h do not uses latest codec for SD channels for some reasons. Some people also says SD channel quality can't be so good with latest codec and some say reverse.


Basically SingTel's ST2 is providing service to Videocon and SingTel also has 30.5% stake in Bharti Group.
