Almonst new Usher BE718 for 65K

If its beriyulum series go for it, usually the new piece price is above 1lac. May be the person is referring to X718.

I also saw same used speaker on sale on this forum as well.

I have heard them with Leben amp at ARN and really loved it.

Thanks
Venkat

Yeah, I think the one that is listed here is almost 3 years old, as opposed to this one. I guess BE stands for beriyulum, if I am not wrong. The pictures clearly show it is BE

Unfortunately I have not heard the creek sound signature. But I can tell you that a warm or bright sounding amp is not recommended for the Usher. It needs a very balanced/neutral type of sound signature as compared to my Jamo's which are from the same priceband but needs a warm sound signature as it's a bright speaker.

I've heard Creek and it is quite bright, and from what you say, NAD is ruled out as well.

:indifferent14::indifferent14::indifferent14: I quite like NAD's sound signature. I kind of miss the NAD and Monitor BR combo :(

Interconnects also dramatically affect warmth and brightness as I've noticed from my and avidyarthy's speaker comparison at his place.

His krell is a very neutral sounding amp so it basically puts across whatever signal it is receiving.

My Jamo's sounded bright and emotionless with a shrill with his lyrita IC while it sounded neutral/balanced with good instrument and vocal separation on my Bogdan Goldy IC.
While at the same time his ATL's sounded dull slow and lifeless on my bodgan goldy IC but sounded great on his lyrita multistrand IC.

So maybe you can also look in that dept if your options with amplifiers are limited.

I used to ridicule members discussing about improvement after changing interconnects, but that is history.

I have witnessed myself at Srinisundar's place, who has a galore of different cables and equipment, what magic interconnects could bring to a system.

BTW, what is your Jamo model?

I use a Jamo concert 8 / D 830 which used to be 2700 USD new. The usher be 718 was USD 2700 aswell.

I was in similar situation when I had purchased my BE-718 (used) about 3 years ago. I ultimately paired it with Leben amp, which has very balanced sound and with brilliant tonality. But being a 15W tube amp it has limitation at lower frequency. Although, in my room size I play at 9-10 o'clock position to produce optimum sound level.

Other amps, which I have opportunity to listen with BE-718 are -- Odyssey Kismet extreme, Belcanto. Mccormack, Usher amp, Symphonic line RG-10, Jaton Operetta,

Odyssey Kismet extreme and Symphonic Line amps were too good and music was free flowing.

With my Leben amp, I changed the interconnect and gone for bi-wired speaker wire and bass is now improved a lot and I am not dissatisfied any more.

You are an experienced listener an can very well find out the good match.

Yes, the be718 is very unforgiving of amplification it's being driven by.

It has good potential but to achieve that potential Usher has sacrificed it's sensitivity.
It's barely about 85db... meaning it requires at least twice the amount of clean power a 90db sensitivity speaker like my Jamo's requires to play happily. Thereby basically pushing up the expenditure on buyers end for a high quality amplifier.

@Amitnoida - The amps you have listed would create a dent from which I can never recuperate :)

@corElement - yeah, just read about its sensitivity it is 86db, adding it to the power-hungry league.

So, what I am looking at is another 1L of investment in terms of amplification. :yahoo::yahoo:

yeah, 1lakh minimum I would say, are you prepared to pull the trigger on that?

Creek EVO (assuming you have the older one) will just not cut-in for the BE718. The sonics of the EVO are way to thin & bright for this speaker with hardly any worthy bass heft. Moreover, this speaker needs a helluva lot more muscle (in terms of current) from what the EVO can do.

Amp change is inevitable if you buy this spk. Be ready for that. And similarly high quality biwiring spk cables that are worthy enough to do justice.

hence, think before you leap.

This speaker needs something with a rich mid range and lots of current. It is very hard to drive so you better give it something with lots of current reserves and spare watts (at least a 100W/ch with atleast 25-30A peak current). Else it does not sing and you'll think that the speaker is poor sounding. Creeks are definitely not gonna work.

Maybe this is what happened to the alitaher dude.

 at this point, I am not sure whether I will be able to. I have a pair of Titan Paradigms, maybe I should get a good amp for that and get a life.:D

Sell the titans and go for Studio 10/20 series. :D

Or alternatively you can buy my monitor 7 towers and make a 5.1 setup with paradigms. ;)

:), I quite like your idea, but am afraid if those would again fit my bill. Those speakers are quite a match for my room, just moved it to the living room from bedroom and it used to be boomy.

Now my mission is to find a right amp to drive them. Driving them with AVR and sometimes they sound miserable.

Cheers!
