Hi everyone,

I have recently moved to goa from Delhi and connected my Harmon Kardon stereo amplifier 3490. But my amp keeps going off with a message, "VOLTAGE PROTECT".

Thinking something is wrong with my amp I went to a friend's house and tried it there, it works properly. Thus something is wrong with my place any suggestions anyone.

Waiting in anticipation.
Warm Regards
Thanks

Check home wiring with a qualified electrician.i hope he can find.

Hi,

If you are staying in Goa and using this amp or any electronic like TV, Fridge etc, you need to use a stabilizer as the electric power supply in Goa is not constant or uniform.

You may end up receiving less power and the amp will not come on or you will get more electric power which will end up frying the amp.

2 and 3 phase power lines are only in some parts of Goa and hence you might have not faced any issue @ ur friends place.

Get a stabilizer..

Could be anything from cross wiring, under voltage, over voltage, earthing related, etc.

Get an electrician to check it out.

Did you try other sockets in the house?

That's a sign of voltage fluctuations. Use a power conditioner, digital voltage stabilizer, etc.

You can also try connecting it another power phase in the house.

Well the same was advised, use a servo/digital voltage stablizer. Is that correct? But there were concerns that it should not resolve the issue necessarily. Could an electrician look into the issue or he'll just be clueless.

Thanks for the reply

Hi

Yes please update....based on personal experience with friends staying at Benaulim, Anjuna, Margao and Mapusa.....stabilizers work fine with their sensitive electronics....

Thanks, one thing which is clear is that the building has 3phase connection. It could be cross wiring or earthing problem. Have called an electrician let's see what he says.

A little clarity on, what is a great power conditionar? Any vendors in Goa for such accessories. Any insight on the specs of such equipment.

Thanks Again
Warm Regards

Power conditioners are exotic names of getting clean power by audiophiles. Some even rewire the entire setup from the powerline. They usually have electronics but higher end ones have large toroidal transformers stabilize phase, frequency, voltage and current so all connected devices perform optimally even while have large power transient requirements. These also prevent equipment from backouts, brown out, double phase, lightening strikes, etc.

Such power conditioners are very costly.

For mere mortals a stabilizer or online ups is the best you can get.

Good afternoon gentlemen, latest update is, distances are too far in Goa. The eletrcian is 'still' on his way, but might not reach today. It may take him another day or two especially with the Sunday in between, so as soon as there is any meaningful update will inform on the forum. In the meantime thanks for the prompt replies with suggestions and support. Much appreciated than described or able to thank.

Warm Regards
Have a great weekend!

LOL! There's a word goan's use ."Sushegad". Means all in good time. Afternoon naps after lunch is a must. Sooner you get used to it ,easier it gets.

Another quick question for those whose weekends have not yet started. Could anyone point the direction to start an online research and understanding for stablizers. In the first instance I am finding it awfully confusing.

Thanks

Get a servo stabilizer. In Goa, having one is as important as having an electricity connection :D I know of two places; In North Goa, there's AV Pro Global located at Porvorim and in the south there's Ripples (below Osia multiplex) at Margao. I'm using a 4KVA servo stabilizer for my gear that I purchased at Ripples. Hope this helps.

Thanks a lot efernand1 and elt93 i have already come across AV Pro Global, will a 1kv suffice my needs?

Check on the rear of your amplifier. The max power consumption will be there. Add that with the power consumption of any other ancillary equipment that's going to be used together with the amp. Keep a little headroom for future additions and stuff. If its enough, go ahead with 1kva or if required go higher.
