HI All,

Which amplifier to go for my Acoustic portrait Floor standers?

I was planning to go for Naim Unitiqute all in one player.

Now I have come to know about Odessey Khartago amplifier.

30w/channel 8ohm Naim VS 110w/channel 8ohm Odessey Khartago.

I have auditioned Naim Unitiqute. This small unit was efficiently driving 4 ohm floorstander- PSB Synchrony two Floor standers, efficiently.

But if I look at Odessey Khartago, It seems to be very powerful.

Still I have Naim in my mind because it is small, compact ,yet very powerful and mulipurpose and highly versatile unit. But my speaker's amplifier requirement is 40-200 watts.

But I do not know which one of these amplifiers will best suit my speakers and will be able to drive Acoustic Portrait with ease and powerful way?

I want the amplifier not only to drive, but make the speakers shine and let them perform at their best.

What to do, can not decide.

They are very different offerings. The Naim is an all in one - DAC + pre + power amp. With the Khartago, you will need a DAC/CDP + a preamp

The difference in ability to drive may be very difference from what the headline specs suggest. Best to try your speakers with the Naim if available in Delhi.

Is it Subho's AP speakers you are getting?

The best match would be AP pre-power, IMO. Have heard it at 2 places uptil now ... GVenu's (Bangalore) and iaudio's (Cochin). Great combination!

Two AP pre-powers are available on the Sale Thread ... Gijo George (Cochin) and CaptRajesh (Chennai) ... both @ 48K ....

Yes, these are same speakers, but still I wish to go for Naim gear beacuse I will be getting high quality DAC + versatility+ Naim quality gear+ wifi capability+ FM channels + freedom to add subwoofer in case I wish to go for.

Why not pick up the diy accompanying amp Subho was using and now selling with the scanpeak towers?

It's built by a former member who was extremely finicky about sound and strived for nothing but perfection. Hear it out on the scanspeaks. For 23 it is a throw away price.
The member who built it was eventually banned because of perfectionist strong views :P IMO that says a lot :P

Yes, I am leaning towards Naim. Actually capabilities of Naim can not be decribed. People who have listened to it can only say something. I have heard Naim unitiqute driving a psb synchrony 4 ohm FS.

My worry is--in psb synchrony- amplification starts from 20 watts and in AP, it starts from 40 watts.

Does it matter?

Thank you Jai

I've some experience with the Synchrony One towers. Those are very tough speakers to drive. If the Naim can drive those, its speaker driving capabilities are very impressive indeed

Varma_vikas, Please do think about getting the AP amplification with those speakers. It was forum member Gvenu who steered me towards it, when I was in your same position and till date,i feel that the combination is the best available for the AP speakers.
Ofcourse, ymmv! But having heard with same Scanspeak drivers, I feel, it should do well.

Edit: The AP towers should be quite sensitive/efficient. The 20W of Naim would be ample!

Welcome Core,
How are you?

Yes I listened to that amp with Subodh. I think u r talking about the same amp on sale with AP speakers.

When I had auditioned at Subodh's house, I, to be very frank, did not think that is actually a great amp. May be I am wrong because the source at that time was computer and he was playing it with windows media player.

Bass effect was low. Subodh said , he had ordered the amp to be like that, so that it does not produce bass.

I know the amp is made beautifully and with high grade selected components.

Did you ask Siva for an Acoustic Potrait amplifier?

I had called them and very helping lady picked up the phone. I had called them to take some suggestion for the same. Actually she was not aware with other amps like Naim and Odessey etc etc so suggested to go for Swara amp.

Naim is 30w/channel 8ohm and 45 w 4 ohm.

AP sesitivity--89 db

If I go for Naim, I will need not to go for any other thing, like DAC, cd player, however I have cambridge 651 universal player. I can enjow with wifi usb etc etc + FM.

The AP speakers were built with a certain design philosophy in mind. Am sure that the AP pre-power combos on sale in the forum would be the best match to complete that 'design' aim.

All AP products are made with the philosophy of being 'neutral'. So, generally they should partner well with other neutral gears also. Or they can be partnered with colorful gears to get a colorful sound.
