Amps vs Amps vs AVRs

Ultimately I had settled with Cambridge 650A Integrated amp and Marantz CD 5004 after buying and selling a lot of AVRs and speakers of various makes probably of entry level there by wasting a lot of money unable to decide whether my preference is for Movies or music. The lesson that I learnt is always be content with what one has and feel that what he has is the best gear available in the market and finally as a memeber of this forum read the posts regulerly and never allow the knowledge one had acquired to change his opinion about his gear which is the best. Else there is no peace to his mind and keep on changing his products there by dwindling his bank savings.

Regards

On similar lines, how many can identify in a blind test the difference between a dish prepared by a roadside outlet and a fine dining restaurant ? I suppose you know the answer :):):)

It has become fashionable to question the well established facts citing some unverified tests / comparisons carried out by unknown people often at obscure locations to which the person questioning is not privy to any information. Pretty naive IMO. One would be given more credence if they cite personal example but alas, we all are armchair critics after all.

For anyone who strives perfection in what he or she does, he/she must firstly enjoy what they are doing and only then that he/she can do that thing to the best of his/her ability and satisfaction. Same would be applicable to listening to music. One must really love the job of listening to music setting everything else aside failing which one cannot do the job to their best of his/her ability.

Another thing is, one must know the objective of the job at hand. One must know what is one expected to do. Citing my personal example, I was happily listening to and enjoying music for more than a decade on my Kenwood mini monitors, Denon Integrated and Sony CDP which are just budget gears. Though I used to read magazines like AV Max, Stereophile etc., I was not aware of the nuances of 'audiophilia' Only after joining HFV and going through the various discussions about sound that I realised what I was missing.

As far as my understanding goes, those who proclaim that they cannot perceive differences in in gears at different price points are most likely not into the hobby of listening to music seriously. Just my personal opinion so no flames please.

Good one.
Even speaker cables and power chords make a difference

In response to the starting thread.

I won't say much about the material you "copy pasted". This can be a very subjective.

What I can say is, few audio video receivers manage stereo as well as their stereo only dedicated integrated amplifier's. You don't really need a good ear for this.

A audio video receiver has a ton of components for various functions. Digital signal processing, a radio built in, video circuits, etc. When you end up cramming up so much electronics, it is very difficult to keep interference aside. It is impossible if you ask me. No amount of isolation, as a manufacturer may claim in their brochures, can cut out all the signals within the amp. Many audio video receivers have a source direct function. It tries to keep things clean in the signal path and some do manage to get this right. It is still not good enough though. No matter what claim a company may say, audio video receivers are no match for dedicated stereo amplifier.

If you want the best stereo performance, stick to a stereo amplifier. Audio Video receivers do not cut if for stereo and thats it.
