Any Experience with Micromax 50B5000FHD ?

I sent a mail to MMX, regarding extended warranty, but never got any response from them. What if it conks out after a year? Even 35K is not small amount :p :p :p

Keeping an eye on this and other threads :)

The thing to look out for in these brands is not how they look/perform right off the box but how reliable they are over a longer period of time and how prompt is the ASS response when issues crop up.

Like someone pointed out here, if these perform well even for 2 years, you get your money's worth. Plus with the rapid advancements in the TV industry, 2 years may well be the time you give it before looking for a newer model...

For the record, I had a Haier 32 inches TV for 4 years and it didn't give us any grief...

I think some FM said extended warranty is aval in previous post....Try to reach their customer service & confirm extended warranty...

I can pick this up as I picked this 50 incher a month ago and simply loving it:

1) SD content is alright and not bad at all. Some channels seem to be very good and some a bit pixelated. HD content is simply a beauty.

2) ... extended warranty on this TV - I don't think this option is available.

I'm planning to audition and buy the 50B5000FHD model. I couldn't find it in any retail store (in Hyderabad) that I visited.

These are my main priorities:
  • I'll be mostly watching SD content, connected to our set-top box through composite video. I've been hearing that this TV doesn't upscale SD feeds properly. Is that true?
  • Next is playing movies through USB. How is the USB video file format support? Can it play DTS audio. From what I noticed, TVs seem to have problem playing this codec as it's a proprietary one (expensive for manufacturers to add support for it).
  • How about warranty? Is it not possible to get it extended by two years? Doesn't Micromax offer 1+2 warranty? This is very important for me as I don't want my TV to fail on me after 12 months.
  • I'm planning to purchase a Chromecast dongle to take care of the "smart" features.
  • I hate the soap opera effect. Does this TV suffer from it? Can it be disabled from the settings menu? This is a deal breaker for me. I DO NOT want to watch movies and English TV series which look like cheap live feeds with so much detail.
  • I'm planning to purchase a decent 2.1 set. So, sound is not a main priority for me, as long as the built-in speakers are good enough for serials where voice is more important than background sound effects.
  • Design, I really like 50B5000FHD's slim bezel, unlike 40T2820's.
  • We have an L-shaped hall, and we can sit 7-18 feet away from the TV. Does it suffice? Or, will that be too close (for watching SD content) to cause discomfort to eyes?

I called up Micromax LED support and they confirmed that there is no option for extended warranty.

@leo2575, I just noticed that you too are from Hyderabad, and that you purchased this TV a few days back. I'm planning to purchase this model and I'm thinking you could help me in my decision-making process.
  • Have you demoed/auditioned this TV anywhere in Hyderabad, or ordered it without taking a look at the product in real?
  • How does the SD content look? I usually watch SD TV from the cable set-top box, connected to the TV with a composite video cable? This is usage #1 for me.
  • I noticed in some reviews that subtitles look very very tiny. Do you face such problem with videos played off USB sticks/hard drives? Not that this is a deal breaker for me.
  • How about the viewing angles? Does the picture get washed out when view off-axis? How about the blacks, the contrast, etc.,?

I could only see one TV that too 32 inches at a Pai International. But i didnt like it bcos there was no content to play, some stupid mobile quality vidoes being played. So i relied on the various reviews on the net and purchased the tv.

SD content looks really good & HD blows your mind away. In SD some channels look better than others. But overall its good. I use a Tata Sky HD box and an HDMI cable to connect to TV.

I cannot comment on that as i have a WD Media player and i watch all movies through that.

Viewing angles are pretty good. I have seen the TV from almost all coreners of my room and didnt notice any wash out of images. Intitally i was using the standard settings, and didnt what i saw, then tweaked the settings and now it pretty good. The blacks are awesome , so is the contrast. YOu need to adjust the best settings depending on the over lighting of the room , distance from TV etc.

Hope this info helps.

I just ordered this TV from Flipkart.

Had a Sony 32 inch that went bad after 2 years. HDMI ports stopped working and was estimated Rs 13,00 to fix it. Sold it off.

Currently using a Samsung 4 series 32 inch LCD. Everything good, 1 HDMI not working.

After warranty its just luck, but at this price, its worth the Risk.

BTW, Hows the sound quality? Do i need a Soundbar?

Did you get a chance to have a real look at the TV, like in an electronics store in Hyderabad. If yes, please let me know the location.

Have you based your decision only on online reviews?

Thanks a lot of the clarification, @leo2575. It surely helps!

I'm confused between Micromax 50B5000FHD and LG 42LB5820. I know that both these products belong to different price categories, but as my budget is around 50K, I want to either for Micromax and save money, or go for the LG 42-incher smart TV which has all the bells and whistles (one more factor that is tilting my decision towards the latter is LG's superb 6-way wall mount bracket).

I found the sound to be quite good. I don't think you will need an additional sound bar. But again that's a personal preference, so I suggest you setup the TV and use it for some days before taking a decision.

Even I am using a 40 inch for last couple of days in a room of 17x12 ft with 11 ft height, and viewing distance being around 14-15 ft, I find the sound quite satisfactory for a TV.

Unfortunately its not available in Jaipur as per Flipkart and Snapdeal rate has gone to 44K. So I have to wait now. Checked with few local dealers here, they do not have this one in stock.

Have you based your decision only on online reviews?

Went ahead completely based on online reviews. Could not find any negative reviews, apart from DOA/ scratches on remote/ and similar stuff. However Flipkart 30 days return takes care of all such initial issues. I know a friend who returned a Philips LED because it was not detecting his 1Tb HDD and Flipkart replaced his unit with a new one without any persuasion. Later he found out that it was not a TV problem. So completely tension-free of the unit been damaged/ manufacturing issues.

Also have read mixed reviews on sound front, hence my question on soundbar. Will decide on it after i get the delivery on Thursday :)
and schedule installation on saturday

All set for the world cup :yahoo:

A beautiful, well-constructed speaker with class-leading soundstage, imaging and bass that is fast, deep, and precise.
