I was in the market for "the-best-bang-for-the-buck" equipment and it seems as if DIY Amps and speakers is the way to go.
Wanted to ask Forum members for their experiences of buying Used OR New DIY speakers and amps.
How was the long term experience and reliability of the device? I am sure in DIY speakers its a lot safer than buying DIY Amps simply due to the safety features engineered.
Where does one buy these from in New Delhi NCR region.?
Thanks!
DIY = Do it yourself. These are built from kits and drivers and crossovers.

I did take the DIY route with a proven kit which did suit my sound priorities and I had it built in 2006(refer https://www.hifivision.com/threads/my-music-system.2306/) and it is still going strong though I use it in my secondary system. I also bought the Ekta Grande(http://www.troelsgravesen.dk/ektagrande.htm) and built it in 2017 and that is part of my primary system. IMO DIY gets you the most bang for the buck provided it matches your sound preferences, if it doesn't then disposing it is the most difficult part.

Okay - anyone in Delhi looking to sell their DIY speakers? Please DM me.

Its better to buy a proven design as far as speakers go from a proven, measured and accepted by community kit. GR Research comes to mind as an example. My advice to go for a custom diy one off design would be a no as I am not a believer in “tuning by ear only concept”. Not everyone has access to anechoic chambers so pick a kit thats gone thru a few version upgrades.

Similar thoughts for amps. But I see no reason not to buy amps from local manufacturers. Delhi has lyrita(tubes), anode acoustics(tubes and ss) and others. They may be VFM.

And do remember not every DIY product is cheaper than an equivalent factory produced one due to economies of scale. What out for that Gotcha.

Make in India and why not !

I have built a few DIY subs, both from the ground up using my design and a carpenter and kits. I still have some DIY subs, if interested PM. No DIY speakers, just speakers.
