Apple music vs Spotify??

For me It depends on your preference but if you want to get a good description on this you can check out MusConv and if you decide to switch u can do it there

I only listen to apple music when streaming audio. Extensive library for the genres that I listen to. The high-res and lossless quality to my ears has improved over time. I was under the impression that it was the quality of the audio source over time that had become better. Then I realised that upgrading to IOS 14(I think) and now IOS 16.7.1 has also made a difference to audio quality even on downloaded files. The music app maybe getting better at audio rendering and the alac files may already be embedded with a good amount of the details anyways.

Its an interesting journey.

Apple Music is just incredibly convenient & wholesome. Though Spotify is not bad but it has clutter. Forget about sampling rates and hi res, these things are snake oil
 
I was using Apple Music for a very long time back then. I tried Spotify and its very easy interface, and for me, Spotify sounded better than AM. then I changed to Qobuz; it was another level of detail and sound quality, even if my DAC gives output only 16 bits. Recently, I cancelled the Qobuz subscription (which was expensive🙂) and went back to Spotify.

Same story here. I did not renew my AM subscription which expired just two weeks back. I did try renewing the subscription but the silly errors from apple UPI interface has put for India made me loose total interest in renewing. What I find is atrocious is that apple tries to put a UPI mandate for 10 years of subscription. Spotify interface is too good and easy to control your playback on any device. Renewal is also a breeze.

I'm not sure how Snake oil are produced, and not to offend , but to have some insight on audio engineering I did go thru some lectures which are available for couple of coffee and some time ( udemy ) . I just , felt snake oil being thrown on all those excellent Audio engineers who just made the digital audio a reality.
Ever heard computer audio in late early 90s - they did sound like the one you still get to hear in all those children's toys and those photo frame with bhajans etc.

You mean to say you can hear difference between192 khz and say 48 khz at 24 bits?

It is difficult to categorise it as snake oil because you can see the difference in an oscilloscope. But for human ears, there will be no difference.
 
I've tried both Apple Music and Spotify, and while Apple Music has its perks, I'm a big fan of Spotify. The recommendations are spot on, and as a newbie artist, I've found that I can gain popularity faster with Spotify. So yeah, definitely Spotify!
 
I’ve settled on Apple Music for the last couple of years (after trying Spotify, Tidal and a host of Indian platforms) for the following reasons:

1. The only lossless service officially available in India at extremely affordable Rs 99 pm. AirPort Express ensures lossless Airplay from mobile to the stereo system. Wired headphones at the desk or on the move.

2. Clean user interface, uncluttered by podcasts (separate app for podcasts. I also prefer the elegant black and red on white/black colour scheme and can’t stand the predominant neon green of Spotify.

3, Limited, but pertinent recommendations. Not a surfeit that requires endless vertical scrolling. The same about curated/ bot-created playlists. AM restricts them to the Browse page and doesn’t clutter the Home page with them.

4. Apple Classical (lossless) - app designed for Classical music comes free with the Apple Music subscription.

5. I can create nested folders for playlists on the MacBook and access them on all Apple devices. I don’t think this extremely useful feature (for those who create a lot of playlists and like to keep them organised for easy access) is available on any other streaming platform.

The Dolby Atmos holds no appeal for me. But might be of interest to some. I don’t use the Radios much too but they are well-curated.

Sure there are some limitations to AM. The biggest one I’d like changed is the ability to stream it natively from the streamer. That usually improves the SQ further.

Like all Apple software/services, you get the best out of them on Apple devices. Android users might not find the experiences as seamless and smooth.

Yesterday me and other 2 FM Mash and Kumar got to meet at my place for long session almost for 4hrs . Idea was to try speakers stand , different coaxial cables and some shootout and finding sq difference for different streaming service.
We used Spotify, Apple music and Amazon Music for same songs.

We all three felt , Spotify has more sharpness, a bit harsh on ear followed by Amazon Music and Apple Music.

Amazon music has a bit narrower soundstage compared to Apple music.

Apple Music is more neutral than Amazon.

Top end is more pronounced on Apple music.
Vocals ,mids and bass were felt same for Amazon and Apple more or less.

Above was true for all the combination we tried, changing cables and dac

Devices used in chain
Shanti LPS - WiimPro - DHlabs coaxial cable/ Kannan Cable/Optical cable - Soekris/Topping dac - Mogami RCA - Rega elex-r as premap - Mogami RCA - O&B power amp - Mogami 3082 - Evo 4.1 on stands

All the facts stated above about sq of different streaming services holds true for My system only under influence of some alcohol 😀.

Did the chain allow Apple Music lossless (ALAC). Or were you listening to it in AAC (compressed)?
