Watched Art Of Seduction(Korean) yesterday. A romantic comedy where the storyline revolves around the ego war between lead pair.

Very Good Detective movie with loads fun and thrills...

Mix of different genres.. erotic, thriller, murder mystery,..yet beautifully crafted together.

Excellent action Flick...This got rave reviews all over.

Wow, this is quite a list. I'm a big fan of East Asian movies, but I have to admit that I have barely scratched the surface after all the movie recommendations I am reading.

Any "normal" modern day movies, among these? Many of the popular Japanese and Korean movies can get quite intense or gloomy or icky. Yes, I say this after watching Ichii The Killer and Old Boy.

A nice movie that I saw on a flight is Initial D or also called Tau man ji D. It is a nice movie on underground street drift racing. The plot summary unfortunately gives away some nice surprises in the plot.

^ Thanks for bumping this thread. I was thinking of watching asian movies once I am done with my 1930-40's Hollywood films. I was specifically thinking of searching for gurubhai's list, but you saved me a few mins of my online life

genre - drama-romance-thriller
it has some explicit scenes but a very good movie!!

+1 for Dirty Carnival, Mother, Thirst (didn't have much of an expectation for any of them, so pleasantly surprised)... seems i watch a lot of Korean movies (though I'm sick to death of the Vengence trilogy)

Can't go wrong with Wong Kar Wai's stuff except Ashes of time... but so much Chinese cinema is hit and miss...

Japanese: If you're into modern samurai movies - 13 Assassins, Love and honor, Hidden Blade, Twilight Samurai,...

and if you're in the mood for light comedy I say get Shall We Dansu and Sumo do Sumo don't...

If you wanna try some anime Miyasaki saan and Studio Ghibli put out real quality stuff...
I also love Plantes (the premise alone!), K-on! (silly but incredibly engrossing - high school girls starting a band), Paranoia Agent... Samurai Champloo (don't laugh, it's pretty good); Recommend watching it in Japanese with quality animated subs... Thora's rips by preference... but I can recommend other rippers if anyone's interested.
