AVR buying tips.

Hi frnds,

I am new to this page and thus come to know about avr and component speakers. Now I begin to setup my first ht . I got an offer of Yamaha RX v992 avr for 5500/-. I was told it was 7 years old. Shall I go ahead? What all I required to check before I purchase it. I don't have any speakers right now, plan to buy two floorstanders and remaining speakers afterwards.. Please advice friends.
