Back to building OB

The TUBE is in the left compartment of the TV rack that is closed in the photo. Elekit TU-8200 that has a fault in the heater circuit somewhere. Next is to repair it.

Now driven by twin ACA in bridged mono block mode. They are SS amps as you know but designed with some tubey sound it seems (as long as I don't use the balanced input mode).
If you add ribbon tweeters (Fountek NeoCD3.0 or NeoCD2.0) that will be blissful. If the Viawave SRT-7 (Russian made) is affordable one, that will be the ultimate.

I felt so. The high is limited
But if I will be able to hear over 10khz is another question

Nice to see someone mention the Viawave SRT-7 in our forum :)

Iam planning a build with the Raal I have in hand. But thinking of the Viawave for the next already :)

By any chance is it a open back ribbon, as the Raal is sealed and wont make sense using in a OB due to the sealed back.

Don’t vacillate on tweeter addition with F6. Rather keep that for a proper 3 way some day.

However top end extension has nothing to do with what you are able to hear. It nevertheless adds an airy presentation.

When you have had extensive listening sessions with F6, you would feel the need for resolution and its inability to handle the complex music. (Goes with most FRs) Then it’s time to change the setup to a proper 3 way for the ultimate Nirvana.

Over a decade of playing with different kinds and sizes of FR in OB driven by tubes, I realized that it’s kind of under utilization of my apt FRs in OBs. They rather deserve a nice ported or BLH cabinets of their own to bring the very best out of them. (Have crafted one based on RCA design)

As far as OBs are concerned, a properly designed 3 way will bring maximal joy.

However, you enjoy your build as long as you like and try to mate it to tubes. F6 gets pretty loud and deep with tubes and it’s an experience in itself. When you had enough of it, it’s time to change the level.

I was trying to wean away from multi ways. Can feel the limits of FR already.

But age is also playing it's part. My daughter (22 yr old) is the judge of sound in my house. I had taken her to audition speakers and also helps in the setting up at times. When she says the sound is getting to her nerves I can still tolerate. So concluding upper registers are faded a bit.

Hence, the thought of adding a tweeter with a cap for that air.

Don’t wish to make it sound difficult, even for adding a tweeter to an FR, the best experiment and measurements were done by Danny of GR Research. Your best bet is upward firing tweeter, placed closest to the FR. All other renditions, suck out the mids.

Viawave SRT-7 is boxed & stuffed with wool. IMHO, sealed box tweeters will be good ,so that the impact of the radiated mid woofer sound won't affect the performance of the tweeters.

Did you tried keeping the drivers at inner side also try to give a rake angle slight tilt to backwards
Do you mean to swap the wings so deeper wing is far from the driver? The simulation is posted as a reply in this thread itself. A good dip and a hump in the FR.

Swapping the two units is possible. I will try. But the deeper wings will be towards inside. Will the two channels "blend"?

I tried lifting the front but did not find much of a difference. Also it causes instability to the unit since the two wings are of unequal depths. Driver axis is already at near ear level.

I ment the drivers inner side but due to wings then don't bother

I swapped the speakers and placed them with longer wings towards inside. Imaging improved. Had to toe in a bit. I have to play around the placement.

Nevertheless, I can say it works very well with traditional / classical Indian music or old film songs with very few instruments and simple sound signatures.

How far it is from back and side wall?

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
