M2U sounds quite different than inbuilt DAC. For some time, I continued with following setups to find out my likings w.r.t. stereo:

PC >>-Optical->> PM6005
simultaneously
PC >>-USB->> M2U >>-RCA_Interconnects->> PM6005

At the end, I am convinced that M2U does a damn good job, better than PM6005's own DAC.

Audiodoc, I have also used similar design from MX. The problem that I see with these designs is that plug does not sit "tight" inside the speaker/amplifier hole over longer periods of time especially when there is "side load" coming on the plug. Such loads can come due to the cable weight or handling/cleaning over time.

I have found below designs with center support pin much more reliable.

These parts do look good. Similar parts from Parts express are well reviewed. I have unfortunately not yet tried this out.
