Bandish Bandits - An audiophile series

Let me add Rajan Khosa’s ‘Dance of the Wind’ from the 90s with Kitu Gidwani playing a memorable role. And of course, ‘Morning Raga’ - there’s a low chance you wouldn’t have watched it already. Top it up with the genre-defining masterful ‘Jalsaghar’ by Satyajit Ray from 1958. While all the rest mentioned have the artist as the protagonist, Jalsaghar is from the perspective of an obsessed patron.
Aaah. 'Jalsaghar' was indeed masterful and heart wrenching too. One of those movies which leave an after taste and you start wondering about life in general.

In that case, I strongly suggest you also watch ‘In Custody’ (Muhafiz) with Shashi Kapoor in the lead. Similar theme of unwavering passion (in this case for poetry) leading to impoverishment. Equally well-made.

Am sorry if I gave the impression that it’s altogether different. There’s enough continuity in terms of the characters and their relationship. But the setting is altogether different, focused on a national band championship where the lives and relationships of these characters further unfold.

Well, I feel there’s a conscious decision to go for fusion cuisine. True, not all the old patrons wouid enjoy it. But it will bring in new ones.

Yes, the ‘Bandish’ in the name is less appropriate to Season 2.

Nevertheless, I still found the passion of the makers and their commitment to music intact. It still remains quite a unique series.
Totally agreed with your views. Loved season 2 for it's variety and songs.

The post wasn't a totally directed at your post. It was more of my frustration arising out of so many ruined S2s. I am in mortal trepidation whenever I am brave enough to watch any S2 now.

Agree. Season 2 could feel a let-down given our expectations after season 1. But, considered independently, for reasons stated in my earlier comment/review, I find it a much better fare than most series on Indian TV (satellite or OTT).

Very few series are able to keep up with expectations in their second season. To me, BB did it, but not in a way I expected. In hindsight however, I am glad BB diversified the storyline rather than keeping it linear from the previous season.
