Basic question about concealed wiring

Ethernet cable carries digital signal and its unaffected by induction noise from analog cables or electrical, telephone signals. Same is true of hdmi cable.

It is not something that a pro network engineer would do when cabling a building. It is certainly against "the rules." On the other hand, cat-(5 or greater) ethernet cable is designed to reject interference and it does do, pretty well. So, you could try it. There is every chance that it might work just fine. It does need to be terminated properly (do not untwist until you get to the actual connector itself: a real engineer taught me that :)) to maintain its resilience.

There is most horrible jumble of mains cables, signal cables and network cables behind my desk but it is working fine.

I assumed this as well.
Then yesterday I read through this and got me thinking
How much interference is needed before digital signals are affected? - Super User
If I am going to get signal dropouts with this, then I would be fine with wireless as well.

Yes, that's useful, and less optimistic than my suggestion --- and probably posted by people with more experience than me too.

The whole ethernet-TCP/IP networking system is very resilient and probably even a bad installation might work well enough for ordinary data networking, as nobody notices small differences, for instance, in the time it takes to load or save a spreadsheet or wp document. Sound and video are, of course, rather more sensitive.

Unfortunately not the case. I've heard from network engineers who have spent hours looking for the source of such problems. In one instance, it was a seldom-used florescent tube!

Still... it might be worth trying
