I think Oppo 95 or 105 are the best available now. Selling for 1000 and 1200 $ each. Seeing the reviews, 95 appears to be best for Audiophiles.
I chose Oppo 105 over 95 for the following reasons.
1. Same audiophile grade analog circuit as Oppo 95
2. HDMI in. This is very important for me as I am connecting my Airtel DTH to Oppo and uses the superior video chip of Oppo to project Airtel DHT to my big screen.
3. Headphone amp and external DAC inputs are good, but I am not sure if I will use them or not.
4. MHL HDMI in in the front. This is also very good feature as I can connect my Camcorder directly to Oppo and project the video to my big screen.
5. Better power supply without fan. I heard people complaining about noisy fan in Oppo 95.
I think the $200 premium is worth going in for Oppo 105.
I thin there has been some reviews about Oppo 105 not performing on par with Oppo 95 because Oppo changed the DAC configuration for adding a dedicated headphone amp. But Oppo clarified that the new configuration is indeed better performing than Oppo 95.
However, every owner of Oppo 105 says that it needs decent break-in time. And everyone says that after proper break-in Oppo 105 performs on par with or better than Oppo 95 in terms of analog stereo performance.
One more point I would like to mention here. I almost blew up my Oppo 105. When I first turned it on, the voltage setting was in 115V. Lights just flashed in the player and it went to standby. I thought I bricked it. But I just unplugged the player, put the voltage selector to 220V, turned it on, it just worked like a charm. I then checked with Oppo asking did I burn something. They said if the player is turning on and working, just forget what happened and enjoy the player. Nothing has gone wrong. I was so happy about the quality of protection that is built in.
And Oppo customer support is one of the BEST I have interacted with.
Thanks,
John.
