Friends, can anyone help me with which is a good BDP I can get having a good audio output for CD play ?
listening needs would be 70% music & 30% movies - I am going to use a Stereo setup (amp+FS) and not a 5.1 setup

I am looking for a BDP having a a good audio output and DAC as my amp will have a analog in from the BDP (no DAC in amp) - budget for BDP 25-30k

Thanks !

For a budget of 25-30K I would suggest go with separates. Get a Marantz 5004 CD player and a simple Blu-ray player and there will be no need for a DAC as the Marantz CD inbuilt DAC is comparable with some mid level stand alone DACs.

What about an older model Pioneer BDP-51FD like mine? Think it will fit the bill? Audio quality is supreme and it has four Wolfson DACS built in. Blu ray player too. Check out my review and decide for your self. Budget should be less too in terms of investment.

Thanks Guys !

Just checked out the price of new Oppo 103 in Mumbai, dealer quoting 58.9K and saying it will go up end of month due to the depreciating Rupee !

Definitely out of budget at that price...

I am also in same boat and searching for a good BDP which can also serve as a good audio source, within 25k.

ishopinternational quote for Oppo-103 is around 53k there. You can find one in for sale section of the forum, which was for 40k.

Denon DBP1713 UD is also one option, which you can get for <30k after some negotiation in bangalore... but not much reviews.

I am not interested in 3D as of now and the audio quality is more important for me...can anyone comment on Denon DBP1610 as a audio source please.

let me know if there are some more options within 25k....

TIA

I own Oppo 93 and Oppo 105. I think Oppo 93 or Oppo 103's DAC is not in the audiophile range. Oppo 103 is best suited if you have an all digital setup. You cannot expect a super stereo analog out from Oppo 103. The analog outs from Oppo 103 uses a pretty mediocre DAC similar to what is found in budget AVRs.

But as an all in one player, its pretty hard to beat Oppo :). Very happy with both the players :). Oppo 105 is like a custom made player for my needs. It ticks all the requirements I had :).

I think Oppo 95 or 105 are the best available now. Selling for 1000 and 1200 $ each. Seeing the reviews, 95 appears to be best for Audiophiles.

I chose Oppo 105 over 95 for the following reasons.

1. Same audiophile grade analog circuit as Oppo 95
2. HDMI in. This is very important for me as I am connecting my Airtel DTH to Oppo and uses the superior video chip of Oppo to project Airtel DHT to my big screen.
3. Headphone amp and external DAC inputs are good, but I am not sure if I will use them or not.
4. MHL HDMI in in the front. This is also very good feature as I can connect my Camcorder directly to Oppo and project the video to my big screen.
5. Better power supply without fan. I heard people complaining about noisy fan in Oppo 95.

I think the $200 premium is worth going in for Oppo 105.

I thin there has been some reviews about Oppo 105 not performing on par with Oppo 95 because Oppo changed the DAC configuration for adding a dedicated headphone amp. But Oppo clarified that the new configuration is indeed better performing than Oppo 95.

However, every owner of Oppo 105 says that it needs decent break-in time. And everyone says that after proper break-in Oppo 105 performs on par with or better than Oppo 95 in terms of analog stereo performance.

One more point I would like to mention here. I almost blew up my Oppo 105. When I first turned it on, the voltage setting was in 115V. Lights just flashed in the player and it went to standby. I thought I bricked it. But I just unplugged the player, put the voltage selector to 220V, turned it on, it just worked like a charm. I then checked with Oppo asking did I burn something. They said if the player is turning on and working, just forget what happened and enjoy the player. Nothing has gone wrong. I was so happy about the quality of protection that is built in.

And Oppo customer support is one of the BEST I have interacted with.

Thanks,
John.

I think the suggestion by manniraj makes sense !

A separate CDP like Marantz 5004 (or even 6004) paired with a simple BDP should still be lower priced than Oppo 105 even 103..

Is the SQ of Oppo so superior to make it better than good separates ? And justify the price premium ?

At its price range, Yes.

You will definitely find expensive dedicated CDPs outperform Oppo. But the kind of package Oppo offers at that price range is hard to beat.

When people review / comment on the SQ of Oppo, they consider it as a $1,200 player. In India though, the player is costing double the original price, almost close to $2,000. Now if you ask is Oppo worth a 2000 CDP/BDP, it may not.

I hope I didn't confuse you :).

I got my Oppo 105 for $1200 or INR 65000/- when I bought it in the US and USD was 51 INR that time. So for me its a tremendous value for money.

I vote for Oppo 105 though it is not in OP's range. Its a versatile BDP with audiophile grade SQ. It can be used as a pre processor so you can connect a multi channel power amp directly. With dedicated stereo section (with balanced out!!), it also acts as USB DAC! As a CD player, I would rate it much higher than a basic CDP like Marantz CD5004 any day.

If you have that kind of budget with today's $ even if somebody can carry it for you will cost upwards of 70k which is exactly double your budget. At your budget a Marantz CD and a decent bluray player is the best VFM. Also the oppo video playback will be almost the same as a decent blu-ray player except may be the upscaling feature.

Its not just the DAC chip in Oppo 105 that makes is superior, you have to look at the beefed up power supply and also the rest of the analog circuit :).
