Becoming a Senior Citizen ... With Music

Now I get what ur hifivision handle means :-)

...It's amazing how many people, even those who have learnt mridangam, do not make the connection, but, of course, once realised then it is obvious

Thank you all for your good wishes for the day, the event, and future years (which I hope will not be too "crispy" ;) ).

Chennai HFV rasika members will, of course, be most welcome.

To find the hall: follow Luz Church Road from Luz Corner and turn left immediately after the park (kitchen shop on corner, fruit/veg shop opposite). The park will be on your left, and, after right-angle bend, the hall is on the right. By some coincidence, this was, I think, the venue for my first ever Chennai concert as a tourist, back in 1997. I regret that I only knew its founder, S V Krishnan, by sight. His daughter, Jaya, who now runs the hall and the trust, makes all regular visitors welcome and treats us like family guests.

Of the current women stalwarts I listen to Smt Vedavalli,Suguna Varadachari a lot.
I try to make it to all concerts by two Sugunas and one Vedavalli: my "trinity" :). I first saw Smt Vedavalli sing about fifteen years ago, back in London.

For the record, I too learnt how to play the mridangam when I was young. It's in a loft somewhere in my flat now

When I read this post, i got thinking ...Does your handle really have any meaning ....All these days, i was thinking, man, thats a really strange handle ....but had never presumed it had any meaning to it ..just a strange name I thought ...

Now that you had acknowledged that there is a meaning, i was all the more perturbed ....I couldnt make head or tail of it ....Then it struck me ..and WOW ..

Advanced Happy Birthday wishes .....really wish I could attend the concert ...

PS : I haven't learnt to play the Mridangam.

Sir,

Advance Birthday wishes........

Age is only for the Body , Not for the Mind... It is always young.

Regards,

Fantastic way of doing things. If you mentioned it, I could have referred a couple of new singers who are looking for an opportunity. Next time, surely.

Cheers

Wish if this concert is in Bangalore..

(well, a "senior citizen" for some purposes such as banks and railways tickets.)

Yes, on July the 4th, I celebrate six decades of this particular set of flesh and bones.

On my 59th birthday, enjoying the Alleppey backwaters, as is my birthday habit, I decided that something different had to be done for this year, and, on my return to Chennai, I set about making enquiries. I wanted to sponsor a carnatic concert with my favourite senior artist singing.

I asked the lady who runs my favourite hall/sabha who immediately responded, "yes! Of course we can!" Rather shyly, I asked the artist concerned, and was thrilled when she said, "I'd be delighted"

To cut to the chase...

Wednesday, 4th July, 6.15pm,
Ragasudha Hall, Luz, Mylapore, Chennai...

Smt R Vedavalli will sing,
accompanied by R K Sriramkumar, Violin,
K Arunprakash, mridangam, and
N Guruprasad, ghatam.

As they say in The Hindu advertisments: All Are Welcome :)

Happy Birthday Thad! :clapping: :clapping: :clapping:

Wish you many more hi-fidelity music filled years...

Wish could join you for the concert but alas! Hope you have a great evening with fellow Chennai HFV inmates :)

Catching up with ... thanks to all those who have posted wishes since my last thanks :) :)

I saw the same lady sing yesterday evening: it was wonderful. She doesn't give that many concerts over a year, eg maybe only two over the Chennai December season, so twice in one week is blissful.
I thought thats your name and put you down as norwegian

 My tjypijng often looks Norwegian!

Thad

I too used to wonder what your hifivision persona meant.... until I came across an old post by you another forum :)

thadhi ginatom would take six beats, tha Dhi Ghinatom takes seven. They are two of the five varieties of the basic 5-count phrase ThaDhiGhiNaThom

HAPPY 60th YEAR. I wish I could be in Chennai tomorrow.

May God bless and keep you always
May your wishes all come true
May you always do for others
And let others do for you
May you build a ladder to the stars
And climb on every rung
May you stay forever young
Forever young, forever young
May you stay forever young.

May you grow up to be righteous
May you grow up to be true
May you always know the truth
And see the lights surrounding you
May you always be courageous
Stand upright and be strong
May you stay forever young
Forever young, forever young
May you stay forever young.

May your hands always be busy
May your feet always be swift
May you have a strong foundation
When the winds of changes shift
May your heart always be joyful
And may your song always be sung
May you stay forever young
Forever young, forever young
May you stay forever young.

Happy Birthday Thad Sir... You rock !! I love your posts full of technical knowledge.... Still remember one of the best explanation on the use of DAC...That was great :)

Happy Bday Sir.

I too learnt Mirdhangam for a few years in my life, unfortunately I showed more interest to roam outside with my friends and started skipping classes that my Master said there is no point in me continuing if I have no interest. Wish I had shown more interest and continued.

Many happy returns of the day Thad!

I am about half your age and am secretly hoping to grow up as sane as some of you seniors on the forum. There's a lot to lot learn from you sires. Blessed to be in this august company.

Sir,

Please accept my greetings and best wishes for your birthday. This is indeed a nice way to celebrate the day.

Am in Mumbai but have to say i would have loved to make it.

regards,
