Behringer-UCA202 Cheapest USB DAC ( IN US)?

This is not a DAC in the sense you are looking for. It is more of a recording interface with ADC as being the primary functionality that also has DAC. And the reviews are terrible.

Cheers

Thanks sir
I already have Nos Dac this I was looking for one project ,a portable complete ALAC music source building with the help of my netbook.

I have recently bought one of these for my in-laws, comparing it with ODAC that I have, I think this is a steal at this price range. It does have limitation on 48 KHz output which I can live with for its price point and performance. Using with Norge 2060 and Wharfedale 9.1 combo and the results are indeed great.

Also was impressed by NwAvGuys test of the same http://nwavguy.blogspot.in/2011/02/behringer-uca202-review.html

I have this and I've compared this with an Emotiva XDA-2, Peachtree Audio DAC-iT, Arcam rDac and a Teac AHO1 (all of them DACs I've owned/own)....

In short, it's a great DAC and handles my FLAC files admirably...It doesn't have the wide presence or tight bass of the DAC-iT but it offers a significant improvement over my soundcard. It's biggest strength is it's resolution, being able to offer plenty of detail for its very modest price...The other DACs I've owned have very unique sound-signatures and that generally makes it hard to compare them with the UCA202...

i have got a very stupid question....i am in stage of my dedicated room for HT with projector setup. and now the xtreamer will be put to rest and htpc will replace it...

my mobo does not have optical out... so the query is..

this thing has usb input and optical output. will it be able to bitstream DTS/DD through that .

for dth-hd/dolby hd i know we can use HDMI however avr will come next.

my plan is HTPC > ODac ( stereo ) > amp > speakers.

set 2 htpc > optical > z5500 ( dts/dd ).. if this thing can make up as an optical out i will save money on buying a sound card will be nutin less than 7-8k for starters and i can get this for 3k.

No. It will not accept DD/DTS signals ( I wonder if any standalone DAC does). But your PC can do the downmixing of the signal into stereo and pass it through USB.

thats the downside.. what i wanted was to use the USB to optical interface of this unit to feed logitech ... all i want is a passthrough

as logitech can decode DTS/DD with onboard DAC.

:( so sound card is the only option for now else a receiver which will utilize HDMI.

i have a gut feeling that it will passthrough dd/dts with proper settings in video player as it supports 48Khz...

request owners to pitch in ... as this might become a cheap alternative to get optical out with DAC... so people can use DAC for stereo and optical for multichannel with old avr's...

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
