Best 1.4 KV or 2KV UPS

An inverter gives out a square wave which is acceptable for lighting, fans etc. An UPS gives out a sine wave output same as the power utility that supplies you your power supply. Inverter is not recommended for high end audio and video systems.

There are pure sine wave inverters as well, like the one I have......

here is one more input, guys..

A sine wave inverter should have more capacity for the same expectation. i.e., if you are happy with a 600VA square wave inverter and if you want to switch to a sine wave, you might need about 1 KVA capacity to supply power to the same set of equipments and similar duration.

When you use a square wave inverter, all equipments that has a coil (fans for example), will give out a humming sound.

Yes, my earlier (older) inverter gave a square wave output and fan would start humming, until mains power returned. My new Sukam inverter gives a sine wave and from the fan's sound I cant make out if it is mains or back up power. My audio equipment also doesnt hum, unlike earlier.

I just pulled the trigger on an APC unit-Smart UPS 3000RT, its a high end online pure sine wave unit.

Specs here: APC Smart-UPS RT 3000VA 230V

I have a dedicated KEB line going into my basement, and all the audio/HT equipment there will run off this UPS. The equipment in my other rooms will be connected to my inverter, which is already wired up. With 3000VA on tap, I can connect ALL my gear in my basement without any worries whatsoever about overloading it.

Hi,

APC Online UPS Systems 2000VA With inbuilt batteries 12V/7AH-4nos.(APC SURT2000XLI) cost 30K plus tax in NCR. No idea about 3 KVA.

Do let us know ...when you've recovered from the shock!

I thought about going up a level or two in capacity to get more battery run time, but it was prohibitively expensive --- and even my 1500+battery pack is probably a lot more than most would buy for home use. But hey, for an internet addict we're talking life support systems here!

Street price is 87K for this unit, with a 2 year warranty. A French Company is moving out, and disposing it off with a year still left on warranty, so I have successfully negotiated a heavily discounted price.

Suffice it to say that if they didn't agree to my price, I would have walked-and they would have had to ship it to Delhi-all 40 + Kgs of it.Playing hardball worked in this case.

I have to figure out how to wire it up-I may continue to use my sine wave inverter in a couple of systems, but use this online unit for my WAR ROOM.

Hi Venu

Good talking to you last night about the pros and cons of various solutions w.r.t clean power.

I think ( and have always understood) that given our power supply scenario, clean pure sinewave on line is the best way to go if once can afford it. I couldnt so far, until I got lucky yesterday, and stumbled on a good deal, and got a Smart UPS RT model which is APC's higher end online product. I also think it is a good idea to install a unit that has a little more capacity that you actually need at any given time, so that you are okay for the future.

George

Hi,

I heard from some experts that the APC SURT series is ideal for high end Audio systems. These are generally used for sensitive and high precision equipment (like bio-medical) which require a very clean sine wave.

Need to explore

Thank you :) --- and congratulations on your purchase. Please observe the actual time capacity of the batteries, in case they have been mistreated, but if you have the invoice and warranty, I think you can't go wrong

87K, I think you could have gone for a 5KV/7.5KV silent gen for that price.....

Let me confess-I actually paid only 27.5K for it! Now you know whether this is a price that matches the silent genset ?:yahoo:

does it include the batteries,i just blew 25k 3 months ago on a SUA1000UXI and a pair of external batteries

A beautiful, well-constructed speaker with class-leading soundstage, imaging and bass that is fast, deep, and precise.
