I want to recrod tv and export it to files. DTH is encrypted so this can't be done easily via DTH. What is the best device to get to record via cable tv? I can get a device from India or US. Tivo?

Please provide good options, expensive as well as cheap, india as well as US.

Use this with your hdd recorder and the cable signal http://www.hdfury.com/
You will need component input in the hdd recorder.

Which hdd recorder to go for?

hi pratters,

i was in the same position as you, wanting to record tv programs for seeing later again. what i remember is that you can get a dvd recorder, most of them come with a hard disk and capability to record content to a dvd later on. some of these have a built in tuner and the signal is routed from here to the tv. some have built in timers so you can keep everything on standby and it switches on to record at a preset time in case you're out of the house. sony makes some recorders you can check their india website for current models and i think panasonic also. recording to these tata sky recorders is pointless cos you can't transfer and when you fill the space the older material keeps getting deleted.
