Best Home Theater under 80k

Hi guys,

I finally decided to go for a 2.1 setup first and then slowly build the 5.1. That way I can build a better system without spending a lot of money at once.

Now I have few questions.

1. I have auditioned Polk TSX-440T, Yamaha 8390 and Taga Harmony F60-SL. I really liked the Polk towers. Quoted price was 38k. Is it worth it?

2. The dealer is offering Yamaha 477 avr demo piece for 18k, he said 1 year warranty will be given. I will be taking a demo soon. Is it a good deal?

3. I am getting Wharfedale Diamond 230 towers and Denon 520BT avr for Rs.76k as a package from HiFiMart. Heard a lot about these towers and these have won HiFi choice recommended rating too but is it worth spending the extra money on these over the Polk 440T?

Gurus, please suggest. Your valuable inputs will be of great help.

Thanks a lot,

if youre going for a sub, you dont need towers for the fronts. bookshelves will be good. wharfedale diamonds are good speakers. a step above would be the kef q series. if you dont go for towers, the kefs will come in your budget

Hi friends,

A quick question. Pioneer FS52 towers or Elac B6 bookshelfs. I'm getting both for the same price more or less. Am confused, both are very highly rated. FS52 is nowhere to be found for demo and Elac just launched in india with their debut series, I may get a demo for this. If i am looking for a music only setup which would be best option out of the two?

Also, if i opt for a stereo setup i was thinking of Cambridge Audio SR20 amp. Please let me know if this would be a good option.

Did you buy the HT?

Nope. Had to delay the buy due to some other financial commitments. It did give me more time to do some more research. However, I have decided to take the plunge in august.

The confusion still remains.

Recently i got an offer from Onkyo for a package deal.
Onkyo AV Receiver - TXSR 343B
Onkyo Front Tower Speakers - SKF 4800B
Onkyo Centre & Surround Speakers - SKS 4800B
Onkyo Active Subwoofer - SKW 770B

Total cost after discount is 82k

Its not available for demo. Though i have read in many reviews the towers 4800 are as good or better than the AJ FS52 towers specially in the low frequencies. Anybody has any personal experience with these towers or this package as a whole?

Hi

It may be an appealing deal but I recall reading a lot of comments of overheating issues and bad after sales service.....for Onkyo.....

See other available options, there are also some warranty still available equipment in Hi Fi Ads....check if it fits in your budget...

I'm pretty sure you won't regret pioneer fs52 purchase. i'm using them from one and half yr and still enjoying it. never bored of them or no upgrade itch also. ;)

Since its my first HT i'm fully satisfied with my purchase and before that i heard,
Jamo s426 hc3, Yamaha 298 and Onkyo 3600. your taste maybe different so try to audition as much as possible.;)

Also i prefer buying from local dealers so that i can check the speakers and buy as per my taste.

few forums members got Elac B6 i think u may try msg them and if they are in same city u can audition as well.

Goodluck.

Hi,

Yes. Even I'm not very keen on Onkyo receivers because of the heating issues. Will definitely check out the pre-worshiped equipment's here, may get a good deal.

Ok, how about this. A pair of AJ FS52 towers (29k) plus a 5.1 ch surround sound system like JBL Cinema 300 (roughly 25k) and a used or grey market 7.1/7.2 ch AVR (20k), wiring and installation Rs.6k. Great for 2 ch music and should be good for movies too, all under Rs.80k. Am I dreaming too much?

Pioneer fs 52 now 29k? damn.

why not the AJ 5.1 Package if available around 45-50k and get a Yamaha rx v 379 or 381(2016 model at to release in india) or Marantz receiver if u can stretch your budget a bit.

IMO, get a pair of AJ fronts and Marantz receiver from the above ad. and add remain when budget permits.

Thank you all for your suggestions.

Efernand1, thanks so much for those links. I did find some tempting options there.

Nero9, yes my friend, FS52 now retails at Rs.29,980 and after discount its 29k MAX and the whole 5.1 package costs Rs.69,450 and after discount its 65k. These speakers are getting cheaper in the international market day by day whereas in our country the prices are only going up, so much so that I have started to lose interest in them.
Spend 8-10k more and we have options like Jamo S626, Wharfedale diamond 230, Heco victa prime 702, Sonodyne Sonus 2605V3 etc....

Guys, I'm getting a demo piece Denon X1100 AVR for 24k. Since its showroom used, one year company warranty will be given after installation. Do you think its a good deal?

According to me its a great deal. Audion it and but it if you find it good to your ears. 1 year warranty is an added advantage.

It's a good deal if you get one year warranty. Depending on how its been used (or abused), ex demo units carry a slight risk so a warranty is great to have. I would recommend getting complete details on the warranty terms and conditions if its a dealer warranty and not official Denon warranty.

Cheers!

The dealer is Profx. i know someone there. He assured me one year Denon warranty will be given. I am going to audition it today while going back home.

He has also offered me one year used Focal sib and cub 2 speakers along with this AVR for 65k. Official company warranty will be given on the Focal too. Will audition them both today.

So... I took an audition of the Denon AVR along with Focal sib n cub 2 speakers and I realized how full bodied sound these tiny surround speakers could able to produce. I'm no audiophile but I can certainly understand good sound and it was very good sound for the asking price I felt.

They played a couple of blue ray video songs, some action movie scenes from The Matrix, Transformers and Casino Royale. The audio quality was top notch. The bass could have been a lil tight but the surround effects were fantastic.

It wasn't a dedicated HT room. They played it in their office hall since the speakers were setup their with the TV. The room was of my living room size and even the room condition was like a typical living room without any carpets. Now this makes me wonder if this is the system I should go for. Later on I can add two BS/FS as fronts when the budget permits and make it a proper 7.1 system.

Things which are going on in my head right now-

Advantages of taking this system-

Convincing sound quality
VFM pricing for the package
Even though used one year company warranty will be given
Compact in size

Disadvantages -

Asking price for the whole package (AVR and Speakers) is Rs.69,990. They are ready to reduce it till 65k. Am not sure if I should be going for used products when I'm spending 65k.

What do you think guys? Is this a good deal?

Hi,

Check online through various websites what's the current online prices of these models and brands...then check the price of a second hand one....evaluate considering the warranty they are providing and then take a call.

Well i think the price of the AVR is good enough for a second hand product but I'm not very sure of the speakers. I have read online review of these speakers which was done in Feb 2015 and at that time the price in India was 44k. But these guys at Profx are saying the latest price is 59,990. I'm not able to find the latest price anywhere. Maybe its because these are discontinued and the latest one is sib n cub3 which is priced nearly a lakh.

A beautiful, well-constructed speaker with class-leading soundstage, imaging and bass that is fast, deep, and precise.
