Hi there,
First of, I should say that you guys saved me heaps of money. Before visiting your forum, I was considering to get the 1.5Lak BOSE HT. I thought that you cant make anything better than a bose. After reading through the various topics, I realized that you could get things better for less.

Now to what I really wanted to ask.
I am looking to buy a HT for around 45K. I am still confused as to what to get.

My Room is around 600 sq feet.
Usage is - 50% TV , 20% Gaming, 20 % Music, 10 % Movies

From the forum, I hear good reviews for Onkyo. So I went and checked it out yesterday. I auditioned 2 models:
1. 3300 - Rs 26,000
2. TX- SR508 Reciever + HT-728 5.1 Speakers - Rs. 46,500

I really liked the later.
My question is would there be another model that I could go for instead of the Onkyo?
I am not really a audiophile but if there is a much better model, please let me know.

Try profx at spencers for denon-polk combination and denon-kef combi packages, or else drop in grand cinema for paradigm/wharfedale with marantz/denon. 45k is nice enough to get you decent combo.
by the way where you had demo of onkyo at chennai???

regards

Kryton,
Checkout the demos in ONKYO Chennai man... I am sure your wallet will be damaged on spot.

BTW, SR series are really good in ONKYO. Also checkout the NR series too, those are the networking capability receivers. Might cost you 5K extra compared to the SR series.

Address,
Onkyo Sight & Sound India Pvt Ltd.
No.1, Sriram Nagar, South Street, Alwarpet, Chennai 600 018, INDIA.

onkyo speakers are not that great.
also 3300 has passive sub and ( if I am not mistaken) no provision for saME.
BUY RECEIVER FROM ONKYO .YAMAHA ,DENON ,HARMAN AND SPEAKERS FROM SPEAKER SPECIALISTS LIKE POLK,MISSION,JBLETC.
i think that will give you a better sound.
for bigger bass check subwoofer driver sizr 6.5 is too small.8 is ok but 10 is good and 12 is cool! though 12 and 12+ are more expensive.

Yup i was mentioning about the receivers. Buy ONKYO receivers and POLK AUDIO speakers. It makes a very good combination.

If you are ready to spend upwards of 45K in future, then build you HT and don't buy them as HTIB. For a 600 Sqft of space, dont buy Bookshelf Spks. They will not do justice to 600Sqft space. Instead get FS.

I will suggest you an other way to build you HT. Get an used powerful receiver 5.1/6.1 from any brand for Max 10 - 15K. Not sure if you have heard abt Sonodyne Speakers (Made in India). I have updated a Sonodyne Chennai Dealer thread under Dealer in this forum. Visit the listening room (Kilpauk Post Office). It is really good. If those speakers are towards your liking, start building it.

First get the Sonodyne Sonus 3-Way FS 2605 (24K), then get the center channel 4K and then go for the Dipole surrounds 9K. and then buy the subwoofer SLF 200 Studio Monitor series for 23 K Max. So for 60K. You are getting a killer full scale package which is on par with most of the top brands aval in the market.

Do give a try, let us know your feedback & then decide.

Thanks for all the above posts..

I know that I sound noobish(not that I am not a noob) but I dont know if I have the patience or the technical know-how to buy recievers, speakers seperately. Thats why I prefer HTIB. I would get the techies, from the shop that I buy from, to setup the speakers for me.

I shall try to go to Profx at spencers and checkout denon/polk combination.

Will let you know what happens.

Thanks again..

In that case get a 5.1 setup from brands like:
Paradigm, Wharfedale, Klipsch, Energy, Mission etc for about 30k.

And get a receiver for about 20k from Yamaha or Onkyo or Denon.

@ 600 sq ft, satellites are completely ruled out.
If bookshelves, you will need really good ones and a powerful avr to drive them too. Paradigns are amazing but the atom or mini monitors in my opinion are not very loud. Since i mentioned paradign, im completely ruling out wharfedale too.

HTIB's, dont bother.. LOW powered amp, dont bother...

Dude at 45k and considering ur room size, your options are really thin.

Ur best bet is FS. Dont own FS, hence wont really suggest any, but i guess fs it is.

@ jbl, see if you can find the control 1 speakers. 2front and 2bk, 1 centre(choose) and a 100 watt sub teamed with a harmon kardon amp as a package. The whole package will fetch you a good discount.

Hai Mate,
U may consider pioneer or yamaha HTiB between 40k - 45k. Please follow the links
1) Todoroki - Home Entertainment Systems
2) http://www.yamahamusicindia.com/products/products.aspx?CategoryId=6 &SubCategoryId=19

I think it will help U.

I got the Onkyo 508+728 package for 42.5ks. It's awesome, and I think is just what you are looking for. Though room size is 400 sq ft. and urs 600. Donno if tht'll make a difference, in that case buy 2 more rears and make it a 7.1, sound be enough to fill your room with music...

A good HTiB will do an okayish job for a 600sq ft room.

With this budget, stay clear off entry level brands like Sony or Onkyo.

Go in for Wharf or Paradigm etc HTiBs.

Iam from chennai, with the same budget, same requisites for the same sized room.
Looking in for an YAMAHA/ ONKYO reciever
Completely confused with the speaker setup. 5.1/7.1/9.1 ? Is ther an end for it :-) ?

Anyways please suggest some model numbers and speaker options which i can go for.

Budget a little addable.

Does having THX make a big difference ?

Does having THX make a big difference ?
yes it dose but u need to bare that cost ..

i would suggest to go for 5.1 as it will mor e suits u r room size as later setup required bigger room to make the diffrence of sound travelling.

imagine all 5 speaker place next to each other u will never make the diifernce of avr prcosessing .i think this will resolved u r querry

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
