I'm looking at:

Samsung 64F8500 plasma
Samsung 60F6400
LG 60LA6200
LG 60LN5710
VU 65XT780

65 is preferred, so I'm leaning towards the Samsung plasma and Vu LED. Thoughts regarding the same? I've heard plasmas are on the way out, but the reason seems to be that you can't do UHD with plasma. 1080p is fine for me, so I don't see any issues.

Are there any other models I should look at? I didn't see any Panasonics on Snapdeal/Flipkart for this size..

looking at your list its a no brainer...........Samsung F8500 is the KING!!! others don't even come close. Please google reviews and you will know why it is the one of the BEST tv's in the market. If I were to pick the BEST, they would be:

Panasonic ZT60
Panasonic VT60
Samsung F8500

The first 2 would perform better in darker conditions while the F8500 would shine even in brighter conditions. IT is the brightest plasma. You can't get a better tv for the price!!! There really is no competition here. The only LED that might be close to the F8500 in terms of picture quality is the Samsung F8000 which is priced over 3L for a 65inch.

Stocks for F8500 are limited so please hurry and ensure you do not get a demo piece.

Samsung is going to retire the F8500 post 2014. There is no plasma launch in India for 2014 by Samsung. They have launched another 60inch budget plasma for intnl market, not sure if and when available in India.

So, there still will be no match for the F8500. However if you are concerned about it getting obsolete, Samsung series 7/8/9 tv's including the F8500 have support for the Evolution Kit. This is a unique feature of keeping the tv's upto date with the latest available technologies, only developed by Samsung.

Suggest to grab your hands on the F8500 before they are all gone. I just had a friend purchase one a week back, and the dealer had a hard time sourcing fresh stock.

Only if you want LED for a higher price. I studied the new 2014 before I went ahead with the f8500. For the same size and price, could not find anything.

Local dealer is looking into sourcing the F8500. Is there anything worth considering in Samsung's new H series?

If all the f8500 are gone, you should check 60F6400 LED. LEDs have come a long way and this was is pretty decent for what it has to offer at 1.6L. Also new H6 series in 65" is around the 2L mark. I was considering either of these in case F8500 did not materialize.

If you have an absolutely dark room, try out S60 from Panasonic. It absolutely CANNOT be used in the living room.

Samsung series 6 LED is no match for the F8500. I have seen them side by side. If at all any LED does come close it would be the F8000 or F7500. Series 6 is ok for a tight budget and is the only series that comes in 60inches I would even negotiate for a sparingly used demo piece if I had to rather than settle for any LED.

This is what the dealer was recommending on the phone: 65 Class LED H6400 Series TV UN65H6400AFXZA | TVs

MSRP is 2.5L, but he said he'll be able to bring that down significantly.

However, while browsing the US site, I found this one interesting: 65 Class LED H7150 Series TV UN65H7150AFXZA | TVs

^This seems to be the top flat 1080p model for this year and has micro dimming like the F8000.

I'll be going to the dealer tomorrow and investigating this year's India lineup. Not sure what to make of the curved models - fad vs genuinely better viewing experience? Hope there's one in stock so that I can see for myself.

I've bought the F8500. Dealer was quoting 1.91L, but I showed him BLASTO's post from the F8500 thread where he got it for 1.68L from Bajaj Electronics, Hyderabad. Final price paid was 1.73L.

Amazing TV, coming from a 46B650 LCD, I can't stop grinning. Thanks everyone, for the help!

Glad my post helped.
Awesome TV no doubt.
Someone from Bangalore got it for 1.7 by shipping it from here, but shipping such a big TV is not recommended for a difference of 3k.

Ok so the picture continues to be great. However, I'm having persistent HDMI-handshake issues. Tata Sky HDP, Boxee Box, Apple TV and Oppo player are routed via Denon 791. When any of these are on, I get sound from the home theater but the TV continues to say source not connected. Have to turn off main power and restart everything to get picture.

Any thoughts on fixing this?

I have the same issue with my dish tv set top box routed via my denon AVR. I always thought my STB is faulty. Is there a work around? I always have to restart the STB to get it working.

Congrats! :clapping:

Pardon my ignorance but you also seem to have a projector setup...why the TV then? With that kind of budget, would you rather not upgrade your projector or screen? I'm not much into HT so this might seem like a ultra-basic Q but of late, been thinking of upgrading my display (50'' LG Plasma 720p currently). Hence the Q.

aakashr, I doubt it's the STB. When connected straight to TV, there's never any issue. In this arrangement, I use the TV's optical out to send sound to AVR.

I've not been successful setting up audio return channel, but maybe my HDMI cables are all 1.3 spec.

I prefer connecting the other devices via HDMI to AVR to get DTS-HD and TrueHD.

My TV is on the latest firmware - does anyone know a higher level Samsung tech I can reach out to?

soulforged, the TV is for the living room, and the projector is for the home theater - ie two separate setups. I would not use a projector for regular TV viewing, particularly in a living room setup where lighting is almost always suboptimal.
